Well, no one says I am a fast worker, just easily distracted. I never had an engine compartment I could see my face in.

Engine compartment finally done Mallard Blueish, and clear.

Looks darker in the photo then it actally is.

Great job Ray. It really looks beautiful and when the engine is back in, you'll be glad that you did go the extra to get it all done right.

I hate to say this, but being "wrench conscious" is going to take on a new meaning for you. You will find yourself asking you wife for old table cloths and bedsheets "just in case" you want to do a little under hood work.

Wow!!

How many total coats of primer, paint, clear, etc??

Beautiful job.

Used to be a sign in Dad's bar :

I'm not a fast bartender.
I'm not a slow bartender.
I'm a half-fast bartender.

Looks great Ray! Feels good to have it done, Eh?

Just for Dale:
What I started with.

Stripped and sealed

Epoxy Primer 1 coat

Sandable primer one two coats

Two coats Urethane

Clear one coat

And as far as tools, I will be nervious until the first chip or scratch, then things will be fine.

Ray, That is stunning! I see that color on the GT, the sample swatch doesn't do it justice (could be the krinkle effect of the masking tape LOL)I'll be posting my results when it's done as well. Can't wait to see the whole car, hurry up slowly.

Ray,
It would appear you may have painted in a garage or outbuilding. Is that so? Did you construct a plastic tarp shelter or? I have been wondering if painting in a garage detached from the house is possible, with the issues of containing overspray and dust controletc.
Thanks,
Dennis

Hello Ray,

Just would like to express my feelings a bit;

"OUTSTANDING"!!!!!

Can`t wait to see what the rest of car is going to look like!!

Russ

Ray,

That's some great work you did there. Looks terrific!

Ray,
I probably missed it earlier but what color is that? Really has a rich look to it.

My car was originally Mallard Blue which was really a green. Years ago I had it repainted and the painters got the match a little more blue then the original, which is why I call it Mallard Blueish. In bright light it is green blue, in lesser light it is blue green, in very little light it is blue. I like the effect, and more importantly so does the wife.

Dennis, My "garage" looks like this.

When getting ready for painting, I line the ceilings, walls, and floors with 3M Overspray Protective Sheeting to build a tented area around the car. I also use the sheeting to cover areas I do not wish to paint. The hardest part is to get enough air flow to remove the over spray and draw in fresh air so I keep my painting to small sizes.

This guy showed me how to do it.

The fumes are terrible, so make sure when you paint, your neighbors are not at home and you use the appropriate protection to protect your lungs.

Ray
Beautiful job! I am a big fan of Mallard Blue and have considered it for my 4A. Thanks for the tip on your painting setup. I plan to paint outside in a 13x17 screen room to keep the bugs out. News at 11 ... -Pete

I thought it a green shade but know what you mean about the diff lighting. That is a beautiful color paint.
What will the interior color be?
In El Paso, Texas the locals would often paint outside on a hot day after wetting the drive/parking area. These guys were good and experienced at having little to work with. I couldn't believe some of the quality paint jobs done like that.
It looks like your preperation paid off.

Thanks for the progress shots of the painting, Ray.

Greatly appreciated.
