TR2/3/3A Cage nuts, attachment

My floor and bulkhead panels came, many years ago, without cage nuts to attach sealer plate and seat mounts. ( and others)

No-one noticed the absence and the shell is now painted.

Any thoughts about attaching with pop rivets versus plug welding the cages in place. (or , for that matter, using sheet metal screws and washers to attach the sealer plates to the bulkhead?
The plates need to be adjusted after the wings are mounted,

Hi Dr. Mike,

Yes, you could pop rivet them...I believe that Macy's garage even suggests that if you don't want to weld and wreck your paint etc.

Cheers

I have used rivnuts....[blind nut rivets]....successfully. ...you could also use them for seat mounts providing you fitted a a large steel flange or washer to the underside of the floor through which the rivnut is fixed.

I've used both. In this case, I would go with the caged nuts & pop rivets.
Among other things, I don't believe you will find Rivnuts in fine thread, and I really dislike having holes that are both hidden and different threads than original.
The Rivnuts also have a tendency to spin in the hole if the bolt binds later on.
FWIW MMC sells the caged nuts as shown on Macy's site. About half the price per nut but you have to buy a box of 10.

thanks.
I have already ordered Moss nuts and cages... they should be waiting at the border for me.But your post makes me wonder: are there more missing cage nuts that I have not yet got to, and the meticulous body man simply did not know about? I shall find out ( some of them) tomorrow. Macy's site is quite alarming!

Who is/are MMC? not Marsh and McLennan...

MMC = McMaster-Carr, a US supplier of all sorts of hardware, industrial supplies and raw materials. I believe they will export to Canada, though I don't know how reasonable the shipping charges would be. Their charges within the US are always reasonable, though. I use them a lot.

My only "complaint" is that they offer so many options, it's easy to get lost. Here are the caged nuts in 1/4-28 (they have other sizes, from 8-32 through 1/2-13)
