Austin Healey Steering Wheel lock.

Good day fellow AH enthusiasts. Does anyone own a AH with a steering wheel lock? These cars were usually shipped to Germany, at least mine was, possibly even France.

The reason I'm asking is two fold. One, how does the ignition wire in the back.

And two, what does the dashboard look like without a starter button and ignition switch? Is the wiper switch still in the lower left position, or does it mount where the starter button usually is?

A photo would be super.

I'm restoring a 1963 AH BJ7 which has a similar dash to the AH BT7 models.

Hello Johnny;

Several months ago I did considerable research for a local chap who is restoring a German specification BJ7. If you would provide your email address, I have a number of files that I can send, some with pictures, as attachments to an email. The guy restoring the BJ7 is Mal Bruce and he can be reached at: mbruce6@cogeco.ca .

I will be out of town for the next few days so I doubt if I can respond until Saturday or Sunday.

Hi John, My BJ7 has the steering wheel lock, and yes it was originally delivered to Germany. My car is wrapped up for the winter but as I remember, the wiper switch is on the lower left side of the steering wheel. (you would think i would remember that but I don't use the wipers much). I don't have the ability to scan any pics right now. But what was your other point about the ignition.

The lock is at the locksmith, who reluctantly will try and get it to operate. It seems the key fits into the lock but it won't rotate. Possibly the wrong key. You would think a locksmith would be able to make a key that would fit it?

Thanks for responding. No need to unwrap you're probably right about where the WW switch is (lower left side). Just wondering, does your car have a hole where the starter button and ignition switch normally is located? Now I'm not sure if the dash on my car is original. When I took it apart it looked like the PO drilled some holes for the WW and the ignition switch.
