I purchased a bunch of misc LBC parts today. I got a 5 speed tranny that the PO bought for a Bugeye conversion. PO doesn't remember if its a Nissan or Toytota trans. I can't find any marking on it to identify what it is. Anybody got pictures or do I need to post one of the tranny. It will be for sale shortly. Marv

I am originally from Cincinnati so if you have any relatives from up here we may indeed be related. My grandfather had 7-8 brothers and spawned lots of kids.

A while back a poster from South Africa contacted this forum briefly. In So Africa the 60 series 5 speed was fitted to the "bakie". That is a small pickup. The pickup was very popular and made till just a couple of years ago. It had an African nickname that translated to something you couldn't kill!

Now, if anyone can figure out a way to get transmission's out of So Africa we spridget folks will be set forever!
I understand the country is somewhat lawless and, of course, doesn't have e-bay or an equivalent.

Good News! I checked the tranny today and it is indeed a 60 series with exact same marking from the link. Now who wants it. Just pm me if interested and make an offer. I can send pictures of it to your email address.

How ridiculous...... If you have time on your side just wait it out for some 210 junker around your area and offer to take it away for $___ pull the tranny and haul it down to the junk yard. A few years ago I caught a sign on such a deal at a Home Depot store... turned out the guy work at the store..... His car blew an engine on the way to work and he needed to just get rid of the problem quickly. Paid a two spot right there and had it out of the parking lot that day which was part of the deal... Years ago a buddy and I would go up and down back alleys on the first nice spring weekend of the year... the majority of residence would have their garage doors open.... Mostly looking for neglected or forgotten BE's or spridgets ....but you get the idea...

Just was reading through this and noticed this quote, I thought I was the only one that enjoyed doing that, usually the neighborhoods in the older parts of town around here are the better choices for these types of treasure hunts.

Pathetically enough, this will be the 3rd 5-speed that's passed through my hands. Sold the first one off thinking I wouldn't use it, the second one went off with the Tunebug (not installed). I think I'll actually use this one. :grin:

I know I am late to this conversation, but I would like to tell you about my 5-speed experience. My 59 Bugeye had a 4-speed Rib Case. My 60 Bugeye has a 5-speed.There is just no comparison. The fact that you can down shift to first without coming to a complete stop is a nice thing to have, but what is really nice is 5th gear. It makes a world of difference.
being able to drive on the freeway and pop into 5th gear an watch the RPM's drop to 3000 at 50 to 60 MPH is just so much more fun then thinking you have pushed your motor to the limit and any minute it is going to blow up. It is so much more relaxing and stress free for me.
When I worked for a bank way back when we had a bunch of Datsun B210's that our appraisers used to drive to appraisals. No matter how hard they pushed those cars and since the cars didn't belong to them they really pushed them hard they never blew a transmission as far as I know. the Datsun B210 Tranny is a great piece of equipment . I consider myself a layman when it comes to mechanical things like transmissions, but I can attest to the fact that the 5-speed will change the way you enjoy driving your car. No doubt about it in my mind.
