Y w/launch of X type and all the sales it represents is Jag in the red so deeply?

What is causing Jaguar to bleed such deep red ink at the dawn of the successful launch of the Xtype..

Rumor is its a half a billion dollars?

Is it the r & D of the new XJ model?

Is it because diesels are so popular in europe and Jaguar doesn't have one ?

Should Jaguar rush the diesel on line for production? Rumor is they have it coming as well as more variations of the x type..

Sad day when they recently put the F type sports car on hiatus..

What do U guys think...? Is ford just spreading out the misfortune to even its luxury brands..

Was Fords purchase of Land Rover a mistake..?

Is aston martin on the chopping block?

According to the November 18 issue of Fortune magazine, Nick Scheele (Ford COO) said at the Paris Auto Show that Jaguar would lose about $500 million this year "due largely to troubles with the launch of its crown jewel, the aluminum-bodied XJ, now delayed until early next year". He's apparently in trouble with the boss (Bill Ford) because of the remark.

Seems like Jaguar F1 is in more danger of being
dropped than Aston Martin...
Any thoughts on this?

In my opinion, Ford "didn't" have a better idea in coming up with "ford-look-a-like" body styles and calling them Jaguars.. Reminds me of the Cadillac Cimerron (a Chevy by any other name is still a Chevy), plus, like Ford, has the gaul to charge high-dollar prices for these clones..
I wouldn't feel too sorry for Ford.. it was reported that their sole SUV factory, turning out the "Up-Scale" enclosed 3/4 ton pick-up truck, is making note money than all the best European companies and most of the top Fortune 100 US companies. I expect they are trying to do the same with the Jaguar (in name only) car.
Ford is making another mistake in firing their F-1 drivers and replacing them with two unknowns.. It doesn't take a rocket-scientist to figure out that Jaguar's poor performance wasn't driver related, but engine related.. A "Ford Cosworth" in a Jaguar?? Why not develope the Jag V-12?? The Trans-Am Jags campaigned them quite successfully..
The Best thing Ford could do for Jaguar is to sell the company to someone who actually cares about the marque and it's history.. and we thought BMC was bad..

I agree. Ford is acting a little too hinkey. I think that V-12's in general are starting to need revitalization. The only other one I can think of in production is the BMW 12 that I don't think they are using except in the RR's. As to Jaguar it has been a staple for so long that I know I associate them. The V-8's are alright, but not smooth enough.
