White-Black wire from coil to distributor

In the long saga of my conversion to neg-earth, I realize that another part that goes in the trash when someone converts to Pertronix Ignitor is the white-black wire from the coil to the distributor. So I don't have one.

Is this wire a formal part? I can't find it mentioned anywhere, Moss or VB or in the Service Parts book. I know I can make one up but I just though I'd ask first...

Should be part of your loom.

The only wires to come out at that point in my harness are:

the white coil wire
a pair for the brake light sensor
a pair for the dynamo
a longer pair that goes all the way down to the horn.

In an original loom, is the white-black wire actually physically strapped in at this point? If so, there are signs of much more recent work at this point in the harness outer sheathing, suggesting the PO may have removed the wire you describe.

It should be with the either the white wire for the coil ot the greenies for the dyno. I can't remember which, leaning towards the greenies.

Guys, the white with black tracer wire runs between the distributor and the coil. It isn't part of the harness. If you disconnect it at the coil, it comes out with the distributor.

Jeff,

Mine are tapped to the dyno wires, I probably did that meself.

Patrick, all of mine are free standing between the coil and dizzy. I just went out and looked at four of them to make sure.
I think I may be concerned with RFI by taping it to the dynamo wiring.

Jeff:

It has been that way for 20+ years w/o any problems, but I can see your point. So I will probably leave it alone, not do it again, nor recommend it to anyone.

Patrick, I was mainly thinking about the state of the insulation on the old wiring. I don't need any self induced problems! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I've shot myself in the foot too many times over the years.

I'll be, mine is in the new loom I just installed.

Jack, is it just secured to the harness? It should only be long enough to go between the distributor and coil, and has nothing in common with the harness wires at all.

yep, goes in and out of the harness at the same place even. A small stub end thing past the wires for the generator. Kind of doubles back a bit to the dizzy and the coil.

I suspose, is a Moss loom. Was complete but for a few gromets and a dimmer harness.

I just made one up, since the new "Made in China" terminal and lead has a spade terminal rather than a stud and nut fitting. So now I have an independent lead going directly from the coil to the distributor. I don't think I'll bother to strap it into the hearness.

I even found my old crimping tool and set of feeler-gauges from when I was in college... I'm really getting back into this stuff, and having all the more enjoyment with this incredibly powerful resource (BCF) and the advice of all you experts out there, available at all hours of the day and night.

By that way I DID have to rewire my fuel gauge, but not the wiper motor.

Chris, just wait until you get the bill! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
One thing I've done over the years is to scrounge all the old Brit wiring harnesses I could. That way, you always have the odd bit of correctly colored wire handy.

Crimp? What's this crimp stuff. Solder it.

I WILL corode under and around the crimping and give you a poorer connection than you would wish somewhere down the road. Crimping is fine for a temp fix, just remember to do it right.
