Anyone got handy the Paint Codes for OEW?

Easy rattle can source for OEW Paint?

While I have the front suspension out there are some areas I can prep and degrease, and rattle can underneath now, and in wheel wells I won't be able to do easily later on.

Jim,

You should check with your automotive paint supplier; some brands will have an accurate code for the original in the current product. I found this to be the case with Iris Blue, but not others I checked. I recently needed some OEW for the Morris I just completed, and was supplied with the following, which is supposed to be a dead-on match. I'm sure this can be cross referenced to other brands/mixes. This was a small batch I had made to paint the pinstripes.

Porsche Ivory Elfenbein
Brand Code: 81137
OEM Code: 132L132
Mixing Scheme: Concept (DCC)

Jim,
If you have part of your car with unfaded original paint you can have it scanned at a paint store or a place like O'Reileys and they will mix up a spray can of enamel. It works really well for engine compartments and places like that and it's about $15 for a can.

Thanks guys, since original color is I believe Nevada Beige which I found under the wishbone mounts. I'll give O'Reillys a try. I want to get those areas cleaned and prepped and painted before rack and front suspension goes back in.

A while back I had two Bugeyes sitting side by side in my garage that were both Old English White. The paint on the two cars did not match at all. So there are wide variations of OEW. If you like the color of my car I have some touch up paint that matches perfectly. I could put some on a small piece of metal and mail it to you and you could take that to the paint store.

Lot of nice goodies going into a nice car, why rattle can its paint job to deprecate its value?
Jim, Alan has a point. I also stopped by my friendly local body shop and they matched up my paint in a base coat clear coat. I bought a pint of color and clear for $40 and they threw in the reducer, stir sticks, filters, and advice. I was going to use my new 3M paint system with the small disposable cups until everything burned up. The new two part auto paints are tougher, hold their gloss longer, and are pretty easy to spray...you will be better off in the long run going this route.

Another opinion. Spritz it with your choice of color for temporary protection and get the car totally built. Then disassemble the whole car to do the finish paint and body work. I'm pretty sure I could totally disassemble a bugeye by myself in one weekend and have everything labeled.

My Midget was OEW and had sat in a shed for 40 years. I picked a older than OEW looking spot....really antique...and had it scanned with extra spray cans for touch up. Paint is gorgeous and I get plenty of compliments.
I'd decide on final color and have the paint supplier make up spray cans first.

Guys the plan is to spray certain areas i.e Wheel Wells, Front Rails, areas you can't get to and easily spray and mask off without pulling everything apart again. I lost almost a month of build time here after rotator cuff surgery and rehab and some back issues, along with some extra cold temps. Rebuilt front suspension is about to start going back in, repainted in Gloss Black along with new shocks, front suspension, and new shocks, and rebuilt Master. Once done with that will rebuild rear suspension and add rear discs. That will need fettling of course. Wheels back on, will pull the 948 and install the new 1,326 and 5 speed. Again some fettling will be needed. Engine compartment to be resprayed in OEW while engine is out. Goal is to be complete and to be drivig by late Spring/early Summer and then pull apart in Fall for Respray. Maybe not going to pull all of the way apart to minimize reassembly. Reassemble to have ready for Spring. And the ProjecT Plan is subject to change to make sure I can get driving I the late Spring/early Summer. And it could be I drive on the 948 with a new rebuilt suspension if I run out of time. Bugsy will not miss the good dates in the Spring and Summer and Early Fall this year stuck in the garage. The 948 with Cooper S Head and HS-2's, Cam and LCB Header does pretty darn well all on it's own. anyway that is the plan. Thanks for the lead on OEW paint sources.

PS I don't want to wrangle in a 1,326 and a 5 speed with all 4 wheels on jack stands for safety reasons.
