Miata Seat Headrest Speaker Wiring

Hey All:

I am nearing completion of reworking my interior. Not stock, I know, but I drive the car everyday, and like to make it suit my own preferences.

Although I've had the Miata seats for some time, I have never gotten around to hooking up the headrest speakers.

Any suggestions for making use of the factory wiring connectors of the Miata seat? Perhaps an adapter available?

Alternatively, a wiring diagram if I remove the connectors?

I replaced the Miata factory connector with two RCA Phono Jack type Y connectors and then soldered RCA phono Jacks on the wires going into the seat backs. These are the types of connectors that are on the back of speakers and stereos and available at Radio Shack. This made things simple. I stuffed all of the wiring under the passenger seat. RCA Jacks allow me to disconnect and remove either seat as well as disconnect speakers as needed. Two wires run over the hump, under the carpets to connect from side to side.

I added Bass Blocker Capacitors to help with booming and rattling from the speakers. Google Bass Block, something like $7.95 for a set. I did find with a set of 6 x 9 speakers in the back deck, no longer needed anymore, and a set of speakers in each seat, this was more than the Sony AM/FM CD Player could handle. When I cranked up the volume it would blow the power fuse after a few minutes of "Surf Music" or "Car Songs" blasting down the road. Since my better half won't ride in Bugsy I ended up disconnecting the passenger seat speakers and have DS and 6 x 9's hooked up.

Yuo won't believe how well the headrest speakers work. It's like having a set of headphones on while going down the road. Tunes are excellent even at 70 mph. You will definitely enjoy.

Seats BTW look great. How did you handle leveling the seat rails? I ended up using a piece of 1" bar stock under both of the rear seat boltsto get the frame rails parallel to the floor.

DS Left Speaker is hooked in parallel to PS Left Speaker in the seats. No major special connections here.

I also used bar stock to level the seats, per info provided by all you kind folks here.

I do already know how nice the headrest speakers are; I had a '96 Miata 'M' Edition for a few years. Great car, but it was just missing something (breakdowns?), so I let it go and used the proceeds to pick up an old Moto Guzzi. Long story...
