up-date on engine vibration and transmission whine
Just thought I'd give you guys an update on a few of the problems I've been asking about. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
After tightening the tension cable from the bellhousing to the crossmember, a lot of the unwanted engine vibration went away, and the engine stopped dieseling. Sort of an odd unexpected change. Maybe now that it doesn't hit the body it doesn't seem like it's turning over for so long...
I changed out the trans fluid for redline synthtic today, and also put synth-blend 20W-50 motor oil in the engine. The redline makes the trans shift MUCH smoother, and gear whine in second gear is reduced, though still quite loud. I'm betting I have some internal issues to deal with at some point, but that's a project for winter. The motor oil took care of about 60% of the vibration I still had coming from the engine, it feels much smoother now. Based on the viscosity of what came out of the sump I think they had put 10W-40 in it last time /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif One note on the subject is avoid the drill-pumps they have at NAPA. It wouldn't push the tranny oil so I ended up drilling a 15/64" hole in the cap of the oil container, and putting some 1/4" hose through the cap. It didn't leak and worked fine filling it from the engine bay this way. I also greased all the zerk fittings I could find while I was under the car.
I've got my ZS tuning tool now, and the manual, so tomorrow I'm going to try to tweak the car for my altitude (it dropped 5000' from it's previous home!), change out the rear axle oil too and start tracking down my turn signal problems.
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks again, this group is great! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
