Hi, I'm a new member, I own a humber super snipe series1 1959 auto, straight 6cylinder 2651, its currently being restored at the point where I've refit the windscreens but find it very hard to get the chrome inserts back in, so question is do I fit inserts before I put rubber seals on to screen, or has someone with more knowledge than me have a better solution, will update later with some photos, rgds hs

Solution
Looking at the profile, i would suggest fitting the seal to the window, fit the chromes, then string the whole thing into the window frame,
It looks like it should pull in ok.
Plenty of washing soap or rubber lube,

There is a tool you can get for fitting them back in,

just need to use the attachment for the shape of your trim

On my vauxhall the trim went in after the rubber was installed. I was going to buy this tool but found I was able to do it with a small slotted screwdriver and a dental pic or two.

Some photo's of profile, paint sprayer sent me, car's up his unit, in fourth photo on the left of profile is where insert fits, doable when off the screen aperture but when fitted everything tightens up, making it really difficult, noticed there a rootes forum on here, hope someone might see this, hs

Yh, young lad who fit the screen works for windscreen firm, doing it as a favour, but has never fit one before and suggested that, after we fit it, but we didn't want to remove it again until l done some inquiries, forgot to mention, front screen rubber is in a length then you join it, but rear one is in a ring already joined don't know why,

They are normally made in a ring, as long as its the correct profile just cut the front one to make it a bit bigger as they do shrink a bit over time.
has he done the string method before, as a tip i use a sealer nozzel with the tip cut just big enough to put the string through, and use this to feed the string round the rubber seal, overlap the string about a foot and pull the screen in. I normally start at the bottom and pull both ways.

As an aside: I've made the trim insert tool shape with wire coat-hangers with fine result. Vise-Grips for a handle.
