GT6 GT6+ - could be a solid car

I need a bigger garage ( & a lot of money).

- Doug

Must have had some work on the fenders to flare that big.

That looks like a good start..........for maybe $2 large.

Good luck with the project Daniel.
Is that an aluminum flywheel? That shifter looks like it's for an overdrive trans, is it?
I've always liked those rims, can't decide how I feel about the flares...

Glad to have another GT6 come back to life!

Hey all:

New member from California. I'm picking up this gt6 tomorrow morning. Looking forward to the project and learning what I can here.

I've been into series land rovers for years and really fell in love with this gt6.

Here's a link to some pics.

Thanks.

Good buy and welcome to the BCF. You will find a lot of help here if you need it.

Yes it does have an overdrive. Not sure about the other parts. They're all jammed in the back right now, but I'll be going through them tomorrow.

The car has been parked since 1978 and will need a thorough going over and much time to be road worthy again, I'm sure. It was set up to be autocrossed and then became a street ride that the po parked when he had trouble with the head. He lost the head sometime during the 30 years the car has been garaged. As far as the flared fenders, I think it was a love at first sight thing for me. Its got a very 70's look to it and clearly was loved at some point.

Anyway I'm looking forward to the project. Should be in my garage tomorrow night.

By the way I noticed the side marker lights on the gt6 are identical to the side marker lights on late series 2a and series 3 land rovers! Makes me feel right at home, as my other vehicles are mostly rovers. Thanks all.

Daniel

Daniel,

Welcome! I hope the restoration goes well for you.
GT6's are cool cars.

You're going to fall in love with your GT6 (we all do).

Please post here often, share your resto experiences with us, with photos.

Enjoy the journey! :yesnod:

I dig the flares! Very 70's looking, sorta like the IMSA 240Zs of that time period.

Good luck with your project.

Yep, the flares work and coupled with the wide rubber it has a neat aggressive stance.

Hey all:

Thanks for the warm welcome! I got the car home today with no issues. She rolled right up on the trailer and came off even easier and right into my driveway. The floors are pretty bad and will be replaced. This car was definitely more race car than street car. Came with a set of 3 :frown: steel wheels with 20.0 x 9.5 x 13 good year racing slicks that are dry and cracked, plus lots of other little bits. The fly wheel is a weber aluminum fly wheel. It will be interesting to see what is on the engine when I pull it out. Any way I'll probably start a new thread once I get going but here is a pic of it today on the trailer.

Thanks.

Hey; and welcome. Thanks for the pictures, Mine has been apart for so long that I am going to be looking at your pics this summer to put it all back together. Nice flares to house those tire, love that squat bug look. Does anyone know if there are some bolt on fiberglass versions for people who don't want a permanent body- altering fender flare?

I used to have a pair of those fiberglass flares, they didn't bolt on, you had to mold them in. I'm guessing that's how the flares were put on Daniel's car.
They came with a GT6 racer I bought a while ago. Sold the car(unfinished project) 6 yrs ago, bought it back about 3 yrs ago. The flares never came back, probably went on ebay(there was only 2)
I have no idea what brand they were...
Actually, even a bolt on flare would require so much trimming away of exsisting metal that it would end up being permanent.
You can trim and roll the fender lip up to help fit more rubber without flares.

a quick google of spitfire flares produced, www.performancefiberglass.com

That's gonna make a nice street car

People are gonna think it's I'talion
