TR4/4A Fitting New Dash--Problem with Dash Pads

Are the dash pads offered by the usual sources top quality--still? I'm having a terrible time fitting my dash after installing new lower dash pads, and one of them seems problematic. It fits too far inward. Granted only about 3/16 of an inch but that's enough. I'm wondering: a) can the mounting studs be bent a little for adjustment; and b) should I "slot" out the dash mounting holes to allow more flexibility in the adjustment? Any ideas or thoughts? Thanks all.

PS The more I play with my TR, even in some frustration, the better I feel.

I have used two sets over the last several years on two different car.s Both sets were from TRF and did not have such a problem. But now that you have a set and are trying to get them to fit. Sometimes you just need to do what you need to do to make what you have fit. The finished product is what counts, not how you got it to fit. I would likely slot out the hole to allow the adjustment.

I can't remember where I bought my lower dash pads, but I know that my drivers side pad is about 1/2" too short where it meets the top near the door. There is a big gap, but I decided to just leave it as I'm done trying to make the car "perfect" especially after the paint debacle and other things I nicked or scratched or dented. But if I was you I would just notch the holes a little bit to slide it over. Can't see the holes once the pads are on.

I had a similar problem when I installed the lower dash pads on my TR6. I ended up removing the stud in the dash pad and moving it to a new location to lineup with the hole in the dash. I used epoxy to anchor the stud. It was an inconvenience (and something that shouldn’t be required) but after moving the stud the pad lined up perfectly.
