Converting BACK to lever shocks

Okay, I just got my box from Tony, and I'm finally ready to fix my suspension. At some point, it had a really bad tube shock conversion installed, and I need to convert it BACK to lever shocks - the new uprated ones I have sitting on my bedroom floor, to be exact. What parts will be missing? What hardware will I need to replace? Also, I'm installing a sway bar from a '78 MGB and I need to know what size bolts to use in the locating brackets - the ones that surround the rubber bushings that go on the bar.

You should have almost all the parts you need. You can scavenge the old parts from the original lever shocks. Even though you have tubes on the front the old lever shocks should still be there to act as the upper wish bones. The only parts I think you might need are the upper wish bone/fulcrum pin bushings.

I'm not sure what the bolt sizes are for the sway bar stuff, though. But what ever you get, I'd suggest make sure their at a minimum grade 5, grade 8 bolts would be better IMO.

Get all the perishables, meaning seals, bushings and if needed, pins. The only other thing you need are the bolts and shock links for the rears.

You should be very happy with the "new" setup. With competition valves they ride quite sporty but not too rough. Definitely harder than stock by a noticeable amount, but not bad. And you can change them later for stock valves if you want to see the difference.

I'll have to have a look-see in the Moss catalog, it seems. Seals, bushings and pins...seals, bushings and pins...seals, bushings and pins...

You may not need the upper fulcrum pins. Often you can can them down a bit, grease and re-use. However if there's any question about their condition, now is a much more convenient time to replace them than later will be.

I replaced my rear springs and changed rear lever shocks to tube shocks awhile back and had to use a sawsall to cut the front spring bolts. The conversion required me to take the shock absorber brackets (item 21 in Moss Motors catalogue) and turn them upside down and switch the left one with the right one. A simple reversal of this would be required to go back to lever shocks. Hope this helps.
