I would like to start this as a new topic. It started on Anthony's topic "This is mine" and I ask those interested in this new topic to review what has already been written there about my trip to England where I drove TS2 for 23 days covering 2088 miles.
The last query about this was on Anthony's topic, from Lou about the ride height of TS2 being lower than TS1 LO after Joe Richards restored his TS1 LO in Ohio to the "original" height.
I first saw TS2 in the shop at the office of the TR Register in Didcot (south of Oxford, England) in 1997 or so. The ride height looked about normal. TS2 was restored by the TR Register after that and it was finished in 2001. During the past 10 years, it has been driven by just about every UK member of the TR Register and the odometer now reads over 44,000 miles. It was restored to be driven and to be reliable. It was not restored to be a concours show car nor is it just a "driver". This past spring, Mark Treadwell and Rob Murphy drove TS2 in the Round Britain Reliability Run. Out of more than 40 entries they finished an admirable 8th, driving 2240 miles non-stop in 48 hours. They had no issues with the car. Not being restored to "original" condition is not a problem with the British who would rather drive their historic and classic TR2 and enjoy it. I was thrilled that they offered it to me. The only warning I got when I picked it up was to use regular "petrol" and "don't run out of petrol". What a nice ride from such nice people.
The engine is still 1991 cc and still has the low port head with original carbs, but all they would say is that it has been "tweaked". I know they have put in a mild cam which really boosts the performance. Because of the "Spats" or wheel covers, it has the original narrow tires and wheels.
It may very well have been lowered too. But I didn't get wet when I "forded" this creek near the Welsh border with the Stoke-on-Trent and the Stropshire TR Groups during a Sunday afternoon outing. The water depth reads 6 inches but I was going fast and the clearance below TS2 was enough to keep me dry. That bow wave must be 6 feet on each side.
