Useful idea?

From looking at a post Randy Forbes made in the thread on 2 post lifts, it occurred to me that something we do at my place of work might be useful for some of you folks. I work on helicopters and some of them (all of them really) are very expensive and need to be protected from "hangar rash". We use the big rolls of clear plastic wrap that are used to wrap pallets. We wrap the entire machine, windows and all in a few minutes, cut seams so we can open doors, and it offers protection against most things that would cause light scratches and scuffs. Peel it off when you are done. It also impresses the heck out of some of our corporate customers when 2 guys come out and wrap up the ship before it even comes in the building. Inexpensive too. One roll is a lifetime supply for me at home. You can still use those Austin Healey logo fender covers.

I've been wrapping them up like that, to protect from welding sparks and me scratching them, for a few years now.

I hadn't considered the welding protection. I don't think the plastic wrap would be so smart for that. Might even fuse to the paint...not good. The other thing is that if you have any paint that is even close to having any kind of adhesion problem the plastic sticks better than any kitchen plastic wrap I've ever seen. We joke about it pulling the paint off, but it hasn't happened yet.

Thanks for the tip Jon. I know I looked into buying what is called "furniture wrap" once. The person working the docks couldn't tell me where the store purchased though. The stuff they used was a little thicker than food wrap that's available from "big warehouse" stores.
