Turbo 948 engine?

Ok I know it is not period, however it is interesting. IMG_0450.JPG
I know it it was done on the Metro, but that is not the turbo from that car.
Ideas?

No doubt a DIY, home built adaptation, but while it may be a Bugeye engine, there's no way that would fit under the bonnet unless it had a big hole in it. You could fit it in a Morris though.

There is a fellow out in Davis that has been running a 1275 Turbo Bugeye, also fuel injected for a couple decades now, also a homemade kit. I think he's rebuilt the engine and replaced pistons at least 5 times. I think some high-end pistons and the FI finally helped dial back the problems he was having. His all fit under the bonnet.

The gearbox is total trash, my guess is the engine is too. I don't see a 948 even is top condition being robust enough to sustain running a turbo.

I remember Glen B's car. The set up in the add would definitely never fit a B/E and I think it was a Morris setup. I was wondering if you had seen it in your travels as it has East Bay origins.

Actually, it's South Bay, not East Bay. Morgan Hill is South of San Jose and almost halfway to Salinas/Monterey. The air cleaner looks to be Morris, and I can't think of anything else that would have room under the bonnet. I'm guessing someone found it in a junkyard though and thought they found something valuable.

Based on his amusing statement, "This package is for someone who really really wants his mk1 Austin Healey Sprite (bugeye) to be original. Vs 1275 and ribbed box conversions, which improve fun / use ability but bizarrely effects sale price." he knows absolutely nothing about Bugeye Sprites let alone what he has there. If you read further, the auction does not include the turbo or related parts!! "The period turbo charger / manifold / carburettor currently fitted could accompany the package for the right price." Given you can barely give away a 948 and smoothcase gearbox, I think at $1000 he'll be owning this for quite a long while. It's not even worth if it was included!

I thought I had a picture of Glen's engine, but could not find it.
