Wedge time for tires--TR7

Hi, Everyone!
Now that upholstery and paint are complete on the Spider, I was hoping to spiffy up under the bonnet. Yes, probably did it backwards as I had my gal brain on. In any case, the nightmare under the bonnet is on hold for a bit more as we have found that the tread cap on both rear tires is beginning to split (Pirelli 185 70R 13). So, I have started the hunt for tires and need advice! The brands that have come up most often are Maxxis, Kumho, Toyo, Sumi"somethings". Any experience with these tires? Suggestions, please! Oh, BTW, since Spiders came with the alloy wheels (also on 8's) I would like to keep those, so I don't think we can fidge on the size of the tires a whole lot (if at all?). Thanks so much for your help!--Monica

Monica, I have used 205 60 r13 and haven't had any clearance problems. I prefer as much contact rubber as I can get, therefore 205-60R13 for me. There aren't any bad tires in the major name brands listed in your post. Still gets to be your decision when it comes to writing the check. The Wedge looks great, have fun and keep the greasy side down and the shiny side up.

I've been using sumitomo htr200's for a couple of years on my wedges. One set is 195/60's the other set is 215/60's. I use for street and autocrossing. Dry traction is good, but on wet pavement there is a traction loss when driving with spirit. Snow traction was good for a small light car. I got them from tire rack (a supporting vendor) and had them drop shipped to my tire shop. I have the stock alloy wheels.

I used to use Dunlops, but now the selection seems rather to michilen's, Walmart tires, or Sumitomo's.

I say at least 15" and maybe 16's

For better tire choices, yep.

However, these cars, at least to me, just don't look right with anything larger than 15" wheels. They start to look like Hot Wheels cars at that point!

My TR8 has 14" Panasports, which are appropriate to my eyes. However, 14" tire selection is also getting slimmer by the day...

I have Panasports too and I , lacking forsight, bought 14 inch rims. I have gone with the Yokohomas, I really like the looks and preformance. I am thinking of going to 15 inch rims for a better selection of tires

Maybe I ought to sell you guys my 15's and go 16's
If I was to go 15's again I would go 7" in the rear.
With my 15's there is still to much wheel well showing
