Taking apart front end

I am going to replace some parts next week on the front end and wanted to see what the recommended procedure is to removing the springs. Rivergate's website recommends putting in two 4" bolts on the spring pans to gently remove tension. Then I guess just back them all the way out of the springs will fall out. Does that sound good, or is there another safe way to do it.

I used the long bolt method for removal and reinstallation. Worked well. May be overkill for the process, but wasn't hard to do and the spring didn't jump out and kill me.

That method works well if the springs are the only thing you are replacing. However, when I do a complete tear down I remove the sway bar, tre, and caliper. Then undo the upper trunion from the shock (while lower A-arm supported on jack). Finally tilt A-arm down and pull out the spring.

And if it sticks a bit a kick works.

Have taken many out, have never used a cheater of any kind. It,s too easy if a job.

Oh, put a floor jack under the car first, sorry about that.

I just use a floor jack, put a little tension on the spring, take out the bolts and lower with the floor jack.

I had to use the bolt method because I had the engine out of the car when I pulled the springs -- car didn't weigh enough to use the floor jack method.

Still have the two long bolts somewhere, tools for the next time.
