E-type brakes and rear suspension question

Basil,
How bad were your disc brake cylinders? I'm in the midst of the same process of rebuilding the calipers on the front. The cylinders are smooth to the touch but are discolored. I need an indication of how bad is so bad that I need to spend lots of money to have sleeves.

Also, what is your source of brass sleeves for the cylinders?

When I get around to the rear, I am looking for advice on what other parts should be routinely replaced, and ordered now, while I have the thing apart.

The E-Type brakes are my current project now that our '73 +8 Morgan is driveable.

If yours are not pitted (in the portion that makes contact with the rubber seal), you can probably get away with cleaning then up with some light emory cloth. Also, make sure the little pin in the center is perfectly straight (Sometimes these can get bent if you try to "pry" out the pistons). Its also important that the area at the base of that pin is very clean of crud when you reassemble the calipers. It is a good idea to have the calipers hot tanked and, if possible, ultrasonic cleaned. At the very least, shoot a lot of air at that base area of the pin to try and blow out as much debris as possible.

I am having mine re-sleeved because mine were pitted pretty bad (mainly from sitting for a few years off the car). I am having it done by Sierra Restorations in Quincy, CA. The resleeve and hot tank/clean for about $40 per (if you do all eight). Its a bit more per I think if you do less than 8 pieces.

Hope this helps.

Basil,
Very helpful comments.
I think I'll try to rebuild the originals in the front. If they leak, at least I don't have to take the entire rear half of the car apart to re-do the job.
