British car mechanic in Wichita

Hi,

I recently moved to Wichita, Kansas and I need to find some resources to finish up my MG. First I need to replace the fuel pump, then I want to have the dashboard replaced. That will be followed by a paint job and a new windshield. I already have all the parts from Moss Motors.

I've called around to a few shops in the phone book and haven't found anyone who is interested in working on it. Does anyone know of a good British car mechanic in Wichita?

I suggest trying to contact your local or state British Car Club (MG; Triumph Register, etc.) and check their resources. There's bound to be a Kansas Brit car organization with members who are willing to provide advice on competent repair shops in your area.

The stuff you mention is not difficult. Any competent professional mechanic could install your fuel pump, and the dash is not rocket science to install, either.

When I started out in this hobby, my local Brit car club was an invaluable resource. In fact, I made lifetime friends through the club. If you're lucky, you might just find some knowledgeable member with time on his hands who will fix your car.

Best steak I ever had to this day was in a private club along side of a Wichita stock yard! Must have been 2 inches thick, tasted fantastic and melted in your mouth.

Relax Debbie. I went through the same situation when I moved 250 miles away from the dealer of my XJ12L JAGUAR. The locals would'nt even let me open the hood if I mentioned any possibility of engine trouble. I found help on the outskirts and very good help. If you car is still running, take a ride to the rural outskirts and spot a place with two or more bays with doors open. These are run by mechanics who can fix anything if you provide them with the diagnostic and the replacement parts. They never refuse if you hand them written instructions in addition. And from experience the odds are that the mechanic who will fix you fuel pump will adopt you and your car. Still, your safer route would be to get in touch with the Wichita owner's club.

Ok, this was great advice. There was a name of a mechanic shop on the car club website. I talked to him and he sounds great. I'm having the car towed over there today. Thanks!

I hear thes guys do pretty good work--not sure how far they are from Wichita--they may be looking for jobs a little bigger than replacing fuel pumps, but we have a guy or two in Nebraska who have had them do street engines for MGBs.
