The "down and to the left" placement of reverse gear in the second picture down was a staple of Toyota LandCruiser manual transmissions until 1985. I don't know how many other manufacturer's followed this practice. However, seeing that the "F" engine used in the Toyota LandCruisers up until 1974 was essentially a metricized version of the Chevrolet 235 "Blue Flame" straight 6, it makes one wonder if Toyota also did the same with their transmissions, so it could be an old Chevy truck transmission as well?
