I learned a new one in Ireland --

MAMIL (MAM-el; rhymes with "mammal"), noun: Middle-Aged Man In Lycra
Guy in his 40s who thinks that a $1000 bicycle qualifies him for the Tour de France (see also, That A-hole blocking the whole lane)

a $1000 bicycle???? you guys time traveling and doing your shopping in 1985? $1,000 is bottom of the line. TdF bikes are more like $20,000+
I have been looking for a new bike and just matching my 35 year old (but upgraded) racing bike is easily $5,000.

No, I'm traveling to Costco and shopping for a bike suited to someone who rides once a decade :p

I believe mine was somewhere in the $400 range. In 10 years I have gotten about $20 worth of use out of it.

My brother-in-law (used to do triathlons and Ironman until someone ran him over) liked to brag that his bike cost more than the van he carried it in. I'm sure he paid more for his shoes than I did for my bike.

A few months ago I bought a used 21-speed road bike with aluminum frame. Cost new was $700+.
I got it for $90 and it is in perfect condition. I've already put a couple hundred miles on it.
