Adrio - I painted everything off the car so the fenders got painted under the spots where the flat washers go. Then I set up the hex head bolts and a bunch of washers onto a thick piece of cardboard and had the painter spray these at the same time as everything else.
Did you knw that the two washers nearest the windscreen wiper motor base as well as the last two on the RHS nearest the Comm. No. plate are much larger ? They must be about 1" or 1-1/8" OD. I re-used these four original larger flat washers on my 1958 TR3A when I was doing my restoration from 1987 to 1990.
Since I had my steering wheel off too, I asked my painter to spray it as well. He told me he had been painting cars for over 30 years and had never ever done a steering wheel before. I told him to do it and it came out beautiful.
Since all of my body parts were painted off the the body tub, all of my mounting bolts are going to be au-natural, that is to say in the bright. I just looked through the TRA Judging and restoration guidelines and they do not talk about body color bolts. They did talk about consistency in hardware colors and the fact that TR got their hardware from many different manufacturers and used them in what ever finish they came in, so therefore there was no consistency.

I didn't know that. What do you suppose the reason for that was??
And Don, what's more astonishing, is that you noticed that when disassembling the car! Your research into these vehicles is just mind-bending on how thorough it is. Of course, you do have the advantage of not anyone but yourself having messed with it.
I had to look through my pictures from when I took mine apart. I'm pretty sure my front fenders were never off before. And I found some pictures that show the two front bolts do have larger washers on both fenders. Also, lookig at the fenders, the first two holes are somewhat larger. I suppose its to allow better alignment -but I wouldn't have given it a second thought if not for Dons note. Now that's something else to remember when I finally put it back together.
The attention to detail of some people is amazing.
