Strange response to my car today

We certainly get various responses to our LBCs when we drive them. Waves. Smiles. Thumbs-up. Kind words. Certainly part of the fun.

Got a new one today. I was in a left turn lane in one of my LBCs, and as a car drove past me in lane going straight, the driver shouted "YOU S*CK!!".

I can only assume that it was (i) jealousy, (ii) sadness over an LBC that the person had sold years ago and now misses, or (iii) an environmentalist who didn't think we should drive old cars.

SHEESH!

Don't give the jerk the time of day. Doesn't deserve it.

My response to him -- which was visual -- had nothing to do with the time of day! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

That IS shoking. I usually get smiles, especially from little kids. Our cars always seemed to me to be kid-friendly, in the fact that they can look in them by themselves, whthout needing a boost. At a show once a woman told my son (then about 5 years old)to sit in her MG TD. She told him he couldn't leave until he could blow the horn.

I've always found our cars to be have very good karma.

Indeed! Had we been in Britain, it would have been two o'clock!

Maybe he is just learning the English language and got his terms confused. Some people are very slow learners.

Since I started driving my Riley Elf I have been getting a response that is new to me. I get the regular smiles, waves and nods. However, on a regular basis, I will be stopped, waiting for a light to change. When I look around I will often see someone taking a picture with their camera phone. I'm pretty sure they are not wanting a picture of me.

I have had one incident similar to the one mentioned above. A group of really scurvy looking guys in a really ugly car pulled up next to me and started shouting all sorts of trash. They all had cans of a malt beverage clearly displayed, so they were probably pretty toasted. I took the earliest convenient turn off that I could. I don't want my car cvandalized, so I didn't signal that they were "number one"

I get the cell phone camera thing in the Lotus pretty regularly, but not in any of the LBCs.

My all-time favorite response from a pedestrian was in the TR-250. A young woman shouted to me while I was sitting at a light, thusly:

"mmmmm-MMMMMMM boy, you must be getting some in a car like that!"

Years ago I was driving a TR7 and had a jogger give me the finger as I drove by. I wasn't speeding, or close to hitting him, or really doing anything but minding my own business. I slowed down to almost a crawl, and the guy picked a log up over his head and started running towards the car. I decided that was time to leave. Who know what the heck these people are thinking...

Usually in the LBCs I get the standard smiles, waves, and thumbs up. In the 308 I get all kinds of weirdos yelling things, lots of cellphone snapshots, and even get people following me frequently. That's pretty creepy.

It it was me, I would have waved back, since it was probably a friend "greeting" me.

But in your case, just jealousy.
