At a recent autocross event, My 72 TR6 developed a thumping noise which appeared in the area of the transmission tunnel. This noise only appears during hard cornering, especially to the right and will stop when the weight is transferred back to neutral. I suspect the driveshaft universal joint is striking the metal tunnel but cannot find any evidence of contact. Additionally I have jacked the car up on the right side transferring weight to the left side in an effort to duplicate the cornering. There is no evidence of universal joint contact. Has anyone experienced this sort of noise before? Thanks for any input or experience you might have. I might add, this car has mild upgrades in the form of Addco anti-sway bars, Goodparts rear camber adjustment link, Koni shocks, prothane bushings and Panasport wheels. None of these parts show any contact during cornering.
