Maybe a TR 3 Part, ID Help.

I was cleaning up around my workbench yesterday, sweeping the floor actually and came across the part (2 pictures attached) Looks like a BeeHive. Length is .409", small end is .220" and the large end is .371". Recently I have been working on the Transmission, over-drive and gear box cover. No telling how long it's been around though. My wife had an old sewing machine sitting in that spot and I finally convinced her that it needed to be out of the shop, so it could be from that.

It is black in color and looks new and in spite of the photos, is not mis-shapened.

If it's not a TR part I will keep it in my strange parts drawer until needed.

Your thoughts deeply appreciated.

First: Are you sure about those dimensions? Do you mean 0.220" & 0.371"? .022" and .0371" sound a little small...

Perhaps: The little spring used on the clevis pin at the two master cylinders and also the clutch slave?

Looks like the spring from a door or window handle that holds the plastic bezel in place on my TR4.

Yep a mite small, I guess it was my dislectic finger again. Frank, those little springs are safely tucked away in small plastic bags with their other associated bits. Moses, I haven't messed with the master cylinders since rebuilding them about 6 months ago so I don't think it goes with them. I am more and more thinking that it may be associated with the sewing machine. When "she who is to be obeyed" gets here I'll check.

Thanks for you thoughts, Tinkerman

Don, thats one of those, don't ask questions. The good part is that it's out of my shop now, at least until she decides to work on it some more. She is a pretty good wrench so it works out OK.

she seems to think that the wee spring came out of her sewing machine, so she is now in charge of it.

One more good thing is that the tranny gear selector top is finished. Another sub-assembly done YEA!!

Aloha,

I agree with Moseso, the size and photos match the little spring that goes over the narrow end of the screw in clevis pin connecting the brake and clutch pedals to the master cylinder push rods or the clutch slave cylinder rod to the clutch actuating lever. Illustrated part 56 on this catalog page:

https://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=29145#55

Note that the one you have is listed by Moss as "not available".

It is NLA -- but --
Part # 32 on the same page is:

596-155 $4.80 FORK with screw-pin & spring

For $4.80 you get the whole clevis, pin and spring.

I know this because I just ordered one yesterday....

Naw, just spent way to much time on this site
First time I've ever seen anybody else use that phrase. Until I saw that, I thought I was the only one who had picked up that phrase from the Rumpole series.

So now I have to show my age/ignorance and ask, what is the Rumpole series?

Thanks Moses and Dave for the ID, now I have to go on bended knee to the Missis to get my spring back. I wonder if I have another one cause I need two.......

By the way Rich, how do you get that "Originally Posted By" window in your post? I see others doing it but everything I have tried wasn't the right way.

Cheers, Tinkerman

Hi Tinker,
Use the 'Quote' button at the bottome of the post, it pastes the post that you want to qoute in the reply box.

The Rumpole series, actually "Rumpole of the Bailey" was a brit mystery series of from '78 to '92 that stared Leo McKern(Number 2) as a British barrister who tried most of his cases in the London court house 'The Old Bailey'. He always refered to his wife, Hilda, as "She Who Must Be Obeyed". That phrase was a reference to a book by H. Rider Haggard - "She".

I did think SWMBO was older than Rumpole, but I didn't know it was this old.

Since you had to ask that I assume you also do not know what 'Number 6' refers to.

Now that you mention it your right Geo. Course there are a bunch of ID's on the forum that fly by me. I just figure they mean something to some one and it's important to them, but yes I would like to know.

Rich, thanks for the info!

Randall, I had no clue that SWMBO was that old! Now I'm going to have to go on the net and look it up. That and the Rumpole series. Would be more interesting reading than the stuff on TV these days.
