MGB Finally on the road again!

Great day! Just drove my B to work. Other than a loud chirping that soon developed from the right rear drum brake everything else is good (sound goes up and down with speed). Will take the drum off this afternoon. The shoes and drum are both new. I am hoping it is a simple matter.

Fantastic. Good to see another one back on the road and gone thru for safety! Time to pound the miles on it now.. Bob

Found cause of noise rear brake noise problem after quite a bit of experimentation. The new drums I bought from Moss are machined incorrectly. The recess inside the drum, where the hub mates, is 1/32" too deep. When installed on the car this caused the end of the drum to hit the back plates! When I first had the noise I compared the new drum to old ones, on my workbench, and everything appeared to be the same. I had even compared this hub mating surface, but not closely. I had no idea 1/32" could make that difference on a drum brake (I can barely read a rule that fine without my glasses, I guess time for reading spec's!). I was focusing on one side and finally figured out the noise was coming from both sides. Put both old drums back on and problem gone. I will be calling Moss this morning to see what they have to say.

Nothing but the finest Taiwanese Backyard Forge products. I'm shocked. :smirk:

... Moss' guys have to be feeling like they're herding cats. Q.C. at point-of-manufacture is nigh impossible, the stuff gets into the supply chain and we become the quality assurance by default. AND get to pay for the privilege.

Yes Dr. you are correct. Moss said they will pay for shipping back and exchange or refund (after investigating). They also said they had no other returns for these drums...go figure. This, however, won't pay for the time wasted and damage to my back plates. Keep your old parts until sure the new ones are correct!
