TR4/4A Extra carpet pieces?

I have 2 carpet pieces that I can't see where to fit. The kit was in the car when I bought it. I've reinstalled it and don't seem to be missing anything in the car, but have these pieces left. These pieces are bound on all edges, and have the padded backing.

Any clue where they go? They don't appear in the parts manual diagrams. Perhaps the kit was made with extra pieces to fit several models, but that seems odd, for carpet. Floor mats for the (nearly non existent) rear seat perhaps?

Hard to determine what size you have there. But they look a lot like the panels that go on the outer sides of the foot well. The transmission tunnel is onthe inside and these would be on the opposite side a left and a right .

Yes, the sides of the footwells. They often come with a stiff backing, are held in place with screws.

Nope, not for the footwell sides. I got around to holding the mystery pieces up into those spaces, and they are several inches too large for that spot. Ah well, I'm not complaining about having extra carpet pieces, I'll find a use for them.

Did you have pieces for the footwell outer sides? And then are these in excess ?

IMHO...they are for the footwells. If you are saying that they are too long, that is so the carpet can turn around across the firewall and under the floor carpet.
If you do not like their shape/fitment you can custom make your own using matching vinyl to cover as I did....looks neater than carpet.

I agree - that is the shape I see. Are they backed with something stiff (possibly cardboard)?

No backing except for the jute, but they are bound along all edges which suggests they weren't for the footwells. I already made pieces for the footwell sides by attaching some inexpensive black carpet to hardboard. Ah well, I'm going to think of these as extra floor mats, and not use them.

Jute backing means they were somewhere it gets warm on the other side.

They were side wall pieces. Extra long so they fold around the hardboard and glued.
