Vendor yearly sales info needed...

hey everyone,

i'm looking to make a couple sizable orders in the coming months to get my gt6 back on the road, but with christmas fast approaching i was wondering what the yearly sales are for our main vendors. i haven't been around long enough to remember specifics, but i know rimmer bros has a couple sales and i'm hoping spitbits has sales too.

i'm mostly interested in rimmer bros, spitbits, and victoria brit since these are the only ones who offer gt6 parts. thanks oh wise ones.

Rimmer is currently running 15% sale now on some stuff - just got their notice in the mail this week.

FYI, there are many other suppliers who offer GT6 parts, although some of them don't necessarily have eye-popping catalogues or web sites. The Roadster Factory, British Parts Northwest and TS Imported Automotive are just a few such places in the US, and Canley Classics is one in the UK that should not be overlooked.

The Roadster Factory usually has good Christmas/Winter sales, typically a 15%+ discount, some stuff more deeply discounted. Not their full range of parts of course, but usually a fairly broad range.

They have a "Collected Sales" catalog online now. Depending on what you're looking for, they offer GT6 parts.

I don't recall Spitbits having a broad 'sale', but they do offer specific parts on specials on occasion. Generally speaking, I have found Spitbits prices are pretty good already, and maybe they don't 'discount' as much.

As mentioned in another post, Canley Classics in the UK has good pricing too, and they offer specific items on 'special' through the year. I don't recall any winter or Christmas sale from last year though. Shipping cost is a pain.

i guess i should add that i'm looking to make over a thousand dollar order from spitbits and don't want a sale to pop up two months later. also, i'm looking at getting afew things from rimmer and would love to purchase them under a sale than not.

as far as canley, i can't afford their parts and i've never been able to find parts offered for the gt6 very often from trf. as for BPNW, i already made a big order from them on their cheaper parts, so i'm set for now.

my spitbits order will allow me to build up my engine and chassis. then it's on to the expensive part, the body and everything else.

Spits and GT6 are not my area of expertise (if one exists!), but ISTR APTFast.com and PRIrace.com are a couple specialists with some interesting Spit/GT6 parts that are pretty hard to find elsewhere.

Also consider the cost of shipping and import duties.

Overseas shipping can be costly! It's often better to work with a local distributor who buys from overseas at wholesale (lower duties), and knows the ins and outs of shipping and/or can batch several orders together in a container for reduced shipping costs.

Used to be, duties were not too bad if you asked the shipper to declare that the parts are for "collectible car"... about 10% if I recall. A few years ago just plain "auto parts" on the declaration would trigger tripled import duties on anything coming into the US from the UK. (It might be different now, things change, just the nature of politics and international trade!)

PRI is just down the highway from you, I think.

Some of these smaller shops might also act as distributors for certain of the larger vendors, passing along significant savings on larger orders. I used to use a Moss distributor on the East Coast, who saved me a ton on state sales tax, which was $75 extra per $1000 spent, since I'm in Calif. like Moss. (But unfortunately that distributor is no longer in the business.)

Many times a vendor will tell you if they have an upcoming sale, just call or send them an email.

Also, several (TRF and Moss in particular) have volume customer/member programs that can help out with discounts and/or shipping specials.

canley and pri are expensive to me since alot of their parts are specialty, and i'm doing my first restore. i'll go with regular things till i drive her for a couple years and have money again. shipping is expensive too (from canley). rimmer has parts i can't get anywhere else, like a radiator and a few other odds and ends (which equals 600 before shipping...oh man).

Canley Classics do have many "specialty" items (Dave's goal apparently is to eventually make entire Triumphs available in Aluminium!), but they carry all the regular parts as well. Their rebuilt/exchange GT6 radiator is the same price as Rimmer's, and the core charge is less than Rimmers. Canley also offers a new GT6 radiator outright, which Rimmer doesn't show. (You can even get an aluminium radiator from CC, but that's a goodly price indeed.)

IF Rimmer gets on another one of their free shipping things, that's great. Otherwise, I've heard that they tend to be much, much higher on shipping.

rimmer has a new outright radiator but isn't really listed. you have to take the radiator part number and remove the last r. it's $316 not including shipping. oh, and the aluminum radiator would be cool, but yes, costly. sorry for the pun, "cool".
