Got the soft top on Ruby Redcar today. I had sanded and primed the frame some time ago, and last week I finally got some of the black water-thinable epoxy paint I like to use. It was a good opportunity to try my new detail spray gun, and it all worked out quite well. So, yesterday I did the painting and today I did the installation.
The top was pretty stiff; it came with the car, so I don't know exactly how old it was. The top itself looked fine, but its box was pretty old and yellow. It could easily have been lying around several years. But I got it installed, and it has fewer wrinkles than I would have expected; couldn't quite get the rear window and rear edge completely flat. But I think it still looks fine.
Driving a bugeye with a soft top, especially if you're six feet tall, takes a little getting used to. My eyes are actually above the edge of the top, so I have to duck a little to look out the side window. Fortunately, though, my head doesn't hit the roof, but if I were an inch or two taller, I think it would.
