As a restoration shop we "inherited" some real doozies. One in particular came from a guy who dealt in some upscale Eurotrash. This one was a mid 1950's Aston-Martin DB 2/4 Drophead, had been at a one-man "cobbeler's shop" for years, ostensibly undergoing restoration. It got pulled out of that place and brought to us. It came in literal bushel-baskets of parts, some new, most old. We were told the transmission and short block had been done (already in the rolling chassis), all suspension as well. On inspection we found a couple quarts of water in the gearbox, a new distributor drive gear in one of those baskets prompting a better inspection of the engine... basically after finding those things and much more, the owner sued the old shop owner and we were subpoenaed to testify as to work lied about and charged for over the years. Every bit 'n piece of that car was gone through, it rolled out of our shop as a proper restoration. Sold for long dollars, too. Hard to find folks who're conscientious and knowledgeable anymore. So "Caveat Emptor!" is more relevant than ever before, IMHO.
