MGC MGC Car Number [VIN] frustrations

Recently acquired 1968 MGC Automatic.
Recently purchased the book "Original MGB".
Started to investigate the numbers on my vehicle:
Engine # - Authenticates
Body # - Authenticates
Commission # - Authenticates
Now here's the problem, my car #. It reads and is titled GCDKU38K6G. The prefix GCD makes sense, as does the suffix G, but KU38K6 according to the book does not!.
Anyone know how I can authenticate?.

That doesn't even match cars bound for ermany, australia or any other place that had their own numbering sequence....possibly somebody made one up...

Write away for the Heritage certificate. Perhaps a prototype? Development model? Tony might know, is there a stamped "secret" vin anyplace? A lot of bugeyes had the VIN written in crayon under the carpet behind the seats. Perhaps there is something similar on a C to verify the VIN?

Clausinger says "MGB cars for the USA had the car number stamped inside the front right-hand side member in the engine compartment just behind the front engine mount adjacent to the starter motor. The stamped-in number is not found on the very first US export cars but seems to have been introduced quite early in the production run. The number is stamped in a similar location on North American MGC's."

Though I've never seen a number there, it may be underneath the paint.

I checked there also. Maybe you're right, it could be under the paint.

Well, without a VIN, it'll be hard to get one.
