MGB MGB Roadster or MG Midget

Owwwwww! Why you guys gotta be so mean to us little guys?

Gel, the only way you will know for sure which car is right for you is to test drive both. That may be a bit of a stretch considering you can't just go down to the dealer.

Also, as this particular forum is populated predominantly by B folks, I think it is safe to say that their opinion may be biased. Had you gone to the Vauxhall forum they probably would have told you you're daft to consider buying a B.

As a confirmed Midget/Sprite owner, I always found driving a "B" to be akin to driving a bus. The same with a TR6 vs a Spitfire.
Just a comment from one of the little guys.
Jeff

then driving a full sized SUV must be akin to driving an aircraft carrier to you folks... cause driving a Yukon was akin to driving a buss for me... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Strangely enough, a Yukon or Suburban doesn't feel all that big to me. I guess it's just because I've driven so many of the littler LBC's, when I drive a "B", it just seems to be big in comparison to what I'm used to.
I guess it's all relative. I think that "B"s are sweet rides, as are the TR6's, but I still have this perception of size to contend with.
Jeff

as fun as the smaller LBCs may be, I might be able to enjoy one given the chance, but I don't know if I could make one a daily driver. As it is, there are too many people on the road that don't see me in my 'B. What bugs me most about that is the phenomenon is not just limited to SUVs and big trucks... :\

I know what you mean, Rob. All I can do is stay situationally aware, and always have my lights on. When I'm in California, my daily driver is a '65 Sprite, and the Bay area is always a challenge.
Jeff

[bias] Midgets are just More Fun. More like a sports car should be. Not as refined, less creature comforts and more road feel. Yes its small, buts it bigger than a motorcycle, i tend to drive mine in a m/c mindset. I just assume that NO one can see, and drive accordingly.[/bias]

I own both a Midget (25 years) and a MGB/GT (15 years). Each car has its pluses and minuses.
I am 6’ tall and weigh about 220 and although it was easier to get in and out of the Midget 25 years ago, I can still do it today, top up or down (easier with the top down).

Driving from Michigan out to Olympia, WA for MG 2005 was much more comfortable in the MGB/GT then it would have been in the Midget, and there was more room for luggage for my wife and I. I love driving both cars and try to put as many miles on each as possible

If you want to use the car in the winter cold and damp then you might consider the MGB GT. It may not as much fun as the open cars but the practicality may be more useful, particularly if its your only car.

I've had both and can attest to the easier entry/exit for the B- and observe that its true almost regardless of size for adults- its just that the difficulty increases more rapidly than size does (exponential?)....

If it is just down to which is more fun to drive, as to being, which is more practical. I would put my scratch into the Midget.

kinda like a puppy...

Try a Berkeley, or Minijem.
Then get in a Midget....Its all in what you are used to.
My opinion....Get the smallest car you are comfortable in.
I would go for the Midget or Sprite. (41 years old 5' 7" & 145 lbs)

As someone who drives a Sprite and a Midget daily in the summer I vote Spridget.

One thing to consider is the the earlier cars, Midget MK I and II have more interior room than the later cars. The seats are different and they added a conv top. It is a very noticable difference.

Spridgets are very fun to drive and will give that true sportscar driving experience, you can throw it around and never worry about it not doing what you asked of it. I think you will find the B drive like a boat in comparison.

BOAT!?!?!

REALLY, Tullamore. I'll ~have you know~ my '66 MGB would soundly trounce (and regularly, too) a Spridget 1275 at autocross... Spridget had been set up for SCCA, the driver/owner was CAPABLE so that weren't it...

*boat* *mumble-mumble*

.......BOAT!?!?!.........

YOU stay outta this... Mr "I'll give away this MGB"...

I know where *your* allegiances lie.

How much BHP can you reasonably expect to get out of a Spridget 1275 & what is its weight?

What does a chrome MGB weigh?

Performance wise, do they have similar power to weight ratios?

Esthetically & handling wise...I would go w/ the spridget except for the fact that I'm not the best Auto-Xer and acceleration does does help me compensate.

Kids may have talent.......I have more disposable income.......Game on. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif
