Our personal record in the Tr4 was Topeka to Portland in 2000 for the VTR. We then wandered down 101 Hwy
till we had to head home. 5500 miles round trip. Took a lot of spares, never needed a one.

Mine was about ten years ago, in my 1960 M-B 190b.

Connecticut to California and back, about 7000 miles.

The *one* thing I didn't take along was a fan belt. Stupid me. And that's the one thing I needed (in Elko, Nevada).

We took a 5500 mile trip to the Open Roads Austin Healey Conclave at Lake Tahoe in 2002. Took US 50 from St Louis with a side trip up to Bonneville Salt Flats. We came home by way of Yellowstone and Mt Rushmore. three weeks with the tip down the whole trip. Loose wire on fuel pump was the only problem encountered.
My wife drove our daughters BJ8 to Salt Lake City where she flew into to get the car. Another Gateway couple drove it back to StLouis.
Fantastic tri!

Late '90's did a round trip Tampa to Cleveland run in the MGB, packed a few spares and tools. Only thing we needed was at the Cleveland end: A set of generator brushes. I'd left those at th' Hovel instead of in the glove box. A ten minute trip to Mentor for a set from an independent parts place.

Used to work with a guy who one year took his family from Columbus OH across along the border to Seattle, then down to San Deigo, from there across to Brownsville Texas and back up to Columbus. Thing was, he did this in 10 days. When asked he admitted they didn't really have time to stop and look at anything since he was driving 100s of miles a day so they'd be up early, in the van till after dark, sleep and repeat. He thought it was a great vacation, not sure his wife and kids did since they spent all those hours just watch the scenery go by.

Driving 100s of miles a day, cross the USA in ten days, but seeing nothing.

As Ralph Kramden used to say, a true "busman's holiday".

eek

Once, in the Tr4, we were on route 66. Somewhere we had pulled in for gas and this HUGE guy
came over to look at the car."My buddy used to have an MG just like that"he said. "I bet he did "
I said and got in the car.
You can't fix stupid and I had just seen the mountain!

Years ago I drove a 63 TR4 from Los Angeles to Memphis. At the time it was no big deal. Yesterday I drove my 67 TR4A to Salinas, 25 miles away, and it was an adventure. Perspectives can change as you get older.

Well, how many smiles to the gallon did you get? I think the joy is the point of this sport.
A LBC turns small trip into a big smile!

I flew from Eureka to Victoria,British Columbia,where I bought
my Cortina MKIII,and drove all the way back (except for the ferry ride).
It went well, but could've turned out otherwise.
Drove our Cortina MKII to Snohomish,Washington,& back again.

Drove our '67 MGB GT to the Dixon,CA British car meet, putting on about 450 miles
going there,& driving around the Sacramento area.

Would really like to drive the GT when we go back to Eureka later this year, but
don't have that much time.

When I first got out of college in the early 80s, drove the Sunbeam from southern OH to Anaheim Ca for my first job. And back when I returned a couple years later. Back then in my 20, blitz driving 1000-1200 mile at a time wasn't really a big deal. Now, I prefer making a several day trip out of long distances and enjoying what I'm passing through

At 16 in late 60's drove my Austin Healey 3000 ('61) from central North Carolina to Ocean Drive, South Carolina which was a 4 hour drive on mostly busy 2 lane roads. Enjoyed the top down cruising around the coastal area, beautiful "scenery" (curves, peaks, etc.) !! Returned about a week later, no issues. Good memories.
