OK, so I have the deadweight calibrator out for a few weeks to calibrate all the locomotive gauges.

So I am offering to CHECK and report the calibration of mechaincal positive pressure gauges (like an oil pressure gauge) that belong to board members for the cost of postage (that's free folks). /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

I will consider SIMPLE calibration repairs (removal of pointer on 270deg. sweep gauges to adjust an already linear gauge, (linear: a gauge that is off by the same amount across its range)) with your prior approval.

I WILL NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR NON-LINEAR GAUGES! That is a gauge that reads incorrectly by varying amounts depending on its position along its range.

If your gauge proves to be out of calibration and non-linear, I will document the error for a more well equipped (and paid) gauge repair place, like Nisonger Instruments.

I DO NOT have the tools necessary to adjust the 90deg. sweep gauges (like the factory oil press. gauge in a TR-6).

At least you will know the error (if there is one).

Got my gauge back this week. Hope some others of you took Jerry up on his offer. I thought my gauge was OK but was worth the effort to send it off to him. It came back fully calibrated, cleaned, with a new fitting and a new plastic gizmo to keep the crud out.

Tinkerman was the only one who has taken me up so far.

I can do this for about 1 more week.

It usually takes me a few days to turn your gauge around.

Ya get a o-ficcial looking report too!


I discovered I can do limited work on the 90Deg. sweep mech. gauges.

Only the very most basic things though.

But yer clean and re-pointering basics is no problem.


Tinkerman's gauge had a strange ratteling inside that turned out to be the original diffuser (for the gauge lights) having shrunk and fallen back into the mechanism. The PO placed some other bit of plastic in there, which was exorcised...

Opened, extracted and flattened the original to provide enough "spring" to last another 50 years...

So, to keep the crud out and to let the light in!
