Leather Steering Wheel Cover

I purchased a Wheelskins leather steering wheel cover. This is for an original 61 BT7. The quality of this cover is top notch, really nice leather. I measured the diameter of the wheel as 16 1/2 inches. This is perfect for the new cover. It stretches just enough to fit and be tight.
The circumference of the wheel grip is a little more difficult. I measured it with a 1/2 inch wide velcro strip, they say to use a piece of string. I got, 2 3/16 inch. I wanted to make sure the cover was tight so I ordered it 2 1/8 inch wide. The cover I got measured 2 1/8 to 2 inches wide. The gap is just under 1/2 inch, really tight.
I thought about getting a replacement but I installed it anyway. This is a custom order so they don't take returns.
I can live with it. It does feel nice.

I also installed a Wheelskins (or similar) cover in early 2005. I do not remember what size I bought but when I fit it to the wheel it looked like it may end up being a bit loose. Turned out in the end to be a good thing it was. I wrapped the wheel with black bicycle handlebar tape and that added, perhaps, about an eighth of an inch to the diameter. Rather than the thread that came with the cover I used some black Nylon cord that is used for seatbelt webbing. Ended up with a very nice fit and feel with the added padding. It has held up well over the years. Pictures here were taken a couple days ago. You can see a bit of the handlebar tape in one of them.

I am going to remove the current one. I ordered another one, 16.5 inches and 2.5 inches. I just couldn't stand the gap. $64 with shipping from Steering Wheels cover
