Headstone for a friend

Back in 2010 a very dear old friend of mine passed away. He and I had worked long and hard to
restore his 55 Tr2 that he had driven since 73. The Tr2 motor had gone sour and a tr3 engine had been
installed (lots of beer that day) it lasted into the 80's.
After the restoration all was done, the Tr3 motor sat under the bench, forlorn and abandoned, the Tr2
motor restored to its original glory along with the car, done to 390 Points concourse.
I recently stripped down this old lump and after cleaning, it was declared dead, cracked in a bunch of places.
So I called my friend's little brother to see if the tiny cemetery he is buried in would allow an unorthodox
headstone, since he has yet to get one at all.
This mad idea may yet bear fruit, he will get permission if he can, and let me know. I have it designed in my
mind and It will be cool. We may video the ceremony , it will be along road trip to get there. But worth it
for an old friend who is still missed.

I did something similar for a friend of mine who passed away last month.

He was 100, a WW2 vet, actually in Berlin as the Reich fell, and was Patton's guide and driver. He liked the old fashioned apples I grow in my orchard.

So I planted a young apple tree- his favorite type: a "Priestley" at the head of his grave.

Sadly , I was informed that "the church lady's" dont make exceptions. In spite of the fact
that Don could use a headstone and the extremely remote location of this cemetery.
I am sorely tempted to just do it in any case. It is literally in the middle of nowhere and where is the harm?
Opinions??

If you have permission from the cemetery owners, and the family is ok with it -

go for it!

If the cemetery owners aren't happy, they'll remove it - or worse.

If it's what your buddy would have liked then go for it.

Family loves the idea, NOT the cemetery folks. I had quite a classy design pictured in my fevered
lobes. Going to let it cool for now and maybe paint the block. You know how hard a union jack is to paint
onto something.....

Humans as a whole are culturally attached to their dead. Thus broad and vague statutes on desecration and acitvities in cemeteries. Don't do anything without permission.

My local cemetery had a big kerfluffle when the family of a big rig trucker placed a couple of exhaust stacks by his headstone:

It was a big deal fight between the pros and cons. Eventually, the stacks were removed. I think you have to be respectful of the families of other folks buried in the cemetery. What you think is tasteful, others may not. The cemetery commission has to make rules. What if someone wanted to put a Trump flag up next to the family that put a Biden flag up?

And there is the issue. A year or so ago I was at a funeral and the grave was near the children's section of the cemetary. It was like a playground; not just flowers but pictures and poems and stuffed animals (some huge) and toys and.... - I know they were all temporary but suffice it to say to my eyes it didn't improve things.

I suppose in the long view it is just for the the family & friends that any marker is set up at all.
I know of a guy who's ashes were scattered in turn #5 at Road America. My self I might prefer
the "bitch" at Hallett OK.

Hey, I went to school down the road from Hallett, at OSU.

Paul Newman loved Hallett, Know some folks that raced there with him. The best story was
a post race, drunken bet, on who could complete the circuit IN REVERSE fastest (moonlight?)
Dusk maybe. Paul won the bet, it was a very funny story to say the least
