HD8 Carburetor rebuild help

The needle and seat should not have a washer. The Grouse jets are designed for a washer.

I've had good luck with the needles that have the viton (black rubber) tips. I've had poor luck with the Grouse jets, but I understand now that they have a anti-corrosion coating on them that needs to be cleaned off with a strong solvent like acetone. (If they need an anti-corrosion coating, will they start to corrode in the bowl? I have no idea.) I never cleaned the ones I had.
 
It seems the Grouse jets in both sets of carburetors don't have those washers. Boy, the more you learn about things, the more you find how incompetent the prior person who worked on them was. How important are those washers? Can I buy them from the local hardware store, and if so, what material should they be made of?

Speaking of incompetent "professionals" seems the drama continues with Dana of SuCarbs. Most likely he damaged one of the throttle stops. I noticed a crack and when I put a little pressure on it, it broke. (Don't even get me started that he didn't returned the carburetor coupling shaft assembly !)

I'm hoping Joe Curto in NY will have one. Moss doesn't sell them. If I can't find one, is there a work around for not having the stop lever?

Yes, like Lin, I had my HD8 shafts overhauled with Tom Bryant's custom delrin bushings. My carbs now idle reliably at 750 which they never did before. Bryant has developed a custom boring bar technique which will give an absolutely straight bore through the bushings. He explains that a reamer will only follow an existing bore, which may be crooked. IIRC he has done 2500 of these bushes since the '90s without a comeback. He gives a lifetime guarantee.

He also does complete rebuilds for a fixed price.

I had previously rebuilt them with the flexible PTFE bushings and experienced some improvement in the erratic idle, but not enough.

Can't recommend Bryant highly enough.

My question about using custom delrin bushings is does it wear down over time like the teflon shims?
