Spitfire hazard circuit diagram for 69 Spitfire

i am using a Haynes manual for a wiring diagram for my '69 Spitfire. it is working o.k. but could be much better.

for some reason, the manual is dead silent about the hazard light circuit, as if it does not exist.

well, i got a hazard system, but it is not working.

I just got the turn signals up and running, except they light the hazard dash light as well as the turn signal indicator light. I'm sure this is not right.

anyone have a diagram for a MK III that includes the hazard circuit?

Anyone have a clue why my hazard circuit is not functioning?

I've got that diagram (or one like it), but mine's got something else going on.

Wires from headlight dipswitch in MkIV Spitfire diagram & some others:
blue/red
blue/white
purple
blue

Wires from my column switch:
blue/red
blue/white
brown
brown/red

Is it possible that you have a replacement switch? How many positions does it have, and does it have a "flash-to-pass" built in?

Wow, andrew. So close.

except, the diagram shows a two prong hazard flasher. my hazard flasher is three prong, or is that my turn signal flasher that is three prong? anyway....i have a three prong flasher and a two prong flasher.

somehow, i have zero hazard lights, yet the turn signals work when the ignition is off.

and, if you cannot tell from this post, i am really confused.

As I recall, the turn signal flasher is the two-pronged one. The hazard flasher (Signal Stat brand, if I remember correctly) is the three-pronged one.

Oh, and your turn signals should NOT work without ignition on (although hazard flashers should). Something's amiss here....

It's the Andy Mace Quiz Show!

My column-mount headlight dipswitch is the one that's been there since I got the car in 1974.

High/low/pull-to-flash. It looks the same in appearance as the other lucas column-mount switches, & the wires certainly look like they're from the same mfr. as the others in my car.

Making things more peculiar is what the standard Lucas color coding is for the brown & brown-w/red wires.

...and, in fact, your column switch wiring colors match both my Factory Workshop Manual diagram for the Spitfire Mk3 LH Steering AND a column switch from such a car! This makes more sense to me now that I think about it. Blue / white is for high beam, blue / red is for low beam, the brown / red is the power lead from the dash switch, and the brown lead (eventually connecting to a purple wire that is fused) is power for the flash-to-pass function.

Of course, NONE of this quite matches what is in that MkIV diagram, but it does seem to match a couple of my cars....

Thanks Andy, that coincides with what I thought was the dipswitch scheme.

The diagram you linked to has more variances from my car: for instance, the turn signal & hazard flashers have only 2 wires in that diagram, while one of mine has 3. How does that reconcile with another schematic for a car that has a hazard light & seat belt warning circuits? They both have a bunch of purple wires going to them.

I really never had electrical problems before, but I am wrestling with headlight & turn signal issues that resulted from butchering by a body shop after my parked car was struck in a hit & run. The body shop was far more destructive than the accident was. I was successful in getting all the parking lights, tag light, dome, key, demister, instrument lights, etc. together.
