Free Triumph in Texas

I got this on our club mailing list and thought I'd pass it on to our friends in Texas
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:]Dear British Car Club Contact,

I am sending this email to our newsletter distribution list regarding a free Triumph 2000 in Texas. I would not normally use this list as a method to sell a car but in this case the car is a FREE Triumph 2000 sedan, plus it is relatively rare and I would hate to see it scrapped. Perhaps you know of someone in your club or in your area who might be interested. If so, please have them contact the owner for more information.

Thanks and best regards,

Mike Hado

Mike,

Here are some photos of the Triumph 2000 I am trying to give away. So far no-one has come out to see it.

As I said, it is free to anyone who will come and take it. I am trying to avoid taking it to the scrap yard and would prefer to give it to someone who will restore it or needs it for parts.

1966 Triumph 2000. This is the left hand steering export model. White, six-cylinder, four door sedan with automatic transmission. It has been in the garage for the past 15 years and will need a full restoration. Complete with original owner's manual. It is my understanding that only about 2,000 were exported to the US. FREE to anyone who will come and get it. Located in Houston, Texas. I would prefer to give it to someone who will restore it, but will also give it to someone who wants it for parts.

I haven't seen this one, but if anyone is really interested I might be able to help as a local resource(after Ike passes!). A second note on this car went out yesterday to our club, there were no takers when the first note went out a couple of weeks ago.

Oooh, early MkI 2000 sedan....Bit of a rarity on your side of the water?
Quite so, yes. Only around 1805 were sold here; at the time, I suspect it was a market yet to be developed (before the "European sports sedan" market that would include Audi, BMW, etc, really developed), and it was expensive compared to so many American sedans on the market. These are almost completely unknown to most American Triumph enthusiasts, even those who know what a Herald is.

When you first look at picture # 2, starting with the headlights, front panel and hood, you think that the designer started out copying a 65 T-Bird. He did pretty well, then must have taken a break, gone to a pub and got snot flying drunk before he finished the rest with a bad hangover.

There's a free one here in Eureka as well.
It's getting rustier by the year.I can get pictures,
contact info,if anyone's interested.
From one of the books I have,it said that Triumph
dealers had to one for every XX amount of TR4s & Spitfires
it got.

This car just doesn't get me excited, ya know? Maybe there's something
I don't know, like big horse power or superb handling abilites; but
at just a glance, doesn't make me want it.

Hey, no problem; you're being honest, and that's cool. (Sly said it best: "Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, and so on and so on and scooby dooby doo-oo....) I had a virtual twin of the car in question for over 20 years, having bought it as a project. Not even having a family found me quite motivated enough to ever get going on the project, so I finally sold it on to someone who DID get going on it! Thankfully, this one is WAY too far away for me to think about reliving my unfulfilled dream.

Oh, and they are great cars, but do NOT expect ultimate excitement from a relatively heavy car with a 2L six and a B-W Type 35 three-speed automatic.

I think you have to had owned a good cornering quick sedan to appreciate them.
