Finding paint code?

New to the world of MGB's and have recently purchased a 77 B. Have been doing some cleaning and minor repairs and have been trying to find out the color / paint code. Color would be best described as an orangey red. Maybe a basic question for most, but how do I find the paint code for my B? Found one site on the net and the color looked like either Vermillion (Burnt Orange Red) or Blaze Red (Orange). Think it might be Vermillion, but I'm not sure. Any help on find- ing my B's paint code would be very much appreciated.

Moss motors catlogues(the newer ones) have the paint codes in the first few pages of general/restoration inforamation. But you have know the name in order for it to be useful....If you post a pic someone might be able to identify the colour.

It was built 2/77. Looking at the paint color link provided by Jaybird (thanks) Damask and Carmine Red look more like Maroon. Could be Flamenco Red I guess, but its hard to tell! Still looks more like Vermillion or Flame Red to me based on the pictures.

Remember, it could have been repainted at one time. look under the dash to find the real colour. Most paint jobs don't spray under the dash, unless it has been stripped to a bare shell.

Pretty sure this is the original color. Same color under the dash, in the engine compartment, trunk etc as on the exterior. Will try a get a picture (below 120000 bytes) and post it.

Roy -

If it was built in Feb. of '77, it's probably either Carmine or Flamenco (orange red), according to Original MGB by Clausager, one of the "bibles" for restoring these things. Damask was discontinued and Carmine was introduced in 2/77. Those are the only reds listed for the '77 model year. The color code for Carmine is 72065 (PPG) or 43019 (Dupont). For Flamenco it's 72144 (PPG) or 43661 (Dupont).

Blaze red was available the year mine was made and also Flame red. The Blaze red was definitely Orange no mistake. My original color was Flame Red and that is what I painted it back in 1985 but this time I chose a non- MG color. After I bought the present color I looked under the bumper where the paint was still good and was sorry I didn't go with the stock color again. But this color I have now is pretty nice now that I am used to it. It is 97 chevy crimson red. If anyone wants the code, I have it. It isn't as pinkish looking as this photo. It is a deep red.

Hi Mickey,

Took a look at both the Carmine and Flamenco colors and my B looks more like Flamenco. Many thanks for your help in narrowing the colors down and supplying the codes.
