Engine paint color....conundrum

OK, I have a 78 MG Midget with a 1275 in it (not the 1500). Just getting it back from the shop for assembly and would like some feedback on a proper color.....Not black or orange please! I am partial to the metallic green. Recommendations on primer (will Rustoleum suffice?). Does it really need to be heat resistant? One would think that if your engine got hot enough to peel paint, you have a bigger problem!

(in hind-sight, I guess it's kind of silly to ask for a "proper" color for an "improper" car)....open to thoughts.

I have kind of the same problem. A Forest Green 74 midget and I really do not want the olive green or black. Peter C thought the Healy lighter engine green color might be a good choice.

Whatever you want - you've already personalized it with the 1275 so, go for it!

As you may know, there really isn't a proper color -- even when new the factory used what was around, so the greens are not all the same. Pick what you like and go for it.

I do like that lighter Healey green color.

Here's a Aseries engine I built with the big healey met. green, I use dupli clor engine hi heat primer, Moss healey emt. green, then Duplicolor hi heat engine clear, it make for nice finish.

Another look, you don't see that much on A series engine, but I think it would look really good, MG maroon.

OK, here, a common colr with a twist, this is a specific supercharger built MGB motor I built, the paint iis the shinieist I ever saw, the customer supplied me with it, it's Hirsh engine paint, sprayed with a gun. Check it out with all his chrome and goodies bolted on.

Liking the burgundy! I didn't think black could look so good either. I don't have the "bling" to pull it off with the black. Thanks for all the great shots, guys.

Already have a black one in a BRG car. Think the metallic Healy green would look nice in my Forest Green Midget.

I am partial to Cummins beige! I think that would also look good in a green car. I like it because leaks are easy to see against it (and it is a neutral color that "goes" with everything!

Along this vein of engine colors: my '65 tranny shows no signs of ever being painted. I've seen photos both ways- anyone have a clue?
