for the first time while trying to unstick my clutch....
no luck but it works good!...only went a couple hundred yrds.....not far but enjoyed, although
i learned a few things ....
1.my transmission is real noisy...out of oil?
2.where the heck do i put oil in?
3.my car likes to jump out of first if i romp it and let go of the shift knob
4.shouldnt i have front AND back brakes at the same time? wheel cylinders maybe?
5.this car is going to be pretty fast, and my motor runs well, although it wants to idle at 1300 : (

well at least i didnt tear up anything new /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
any ideas for my new projects?
looks like i might be stuck pulling the motor to fix the clutch when i get some cash for a new one... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif
86000 miles ...it works good, should i get a new one or just break it loose?...thx guyz....zzziimmmmy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif

1 first gear will be noisy
2 drivers side tranny tunnel, there should be a rubber plug to give you acess to the filler
3 hmmm
4 yes, maybe
5 check for vacuum leaks, especially around the throttle shafts

i cant imagine that a rusted stuck clutch would last to long even if you did manage to break it loose.

congrats, Feels pretty good doesnt it?

Do yourself a favor and buy a "Bentley" repair manual.
"The Complete Offical 1275cc Sprite/Midget 1967-1974"
You will find them on ebay or at used books websites.

The Bentley books are "The Horse's Mouth" Jim.

The Haynes manual is better than guessing but the Bentley manual is the way to go if you really want to know what is going on. It has saved my butt more times than I car to discuss...lol. If you keep your Midget, it will be one of the best investments you will make...

Hey Zimmy,

Check Harbor Freight or Nothern Tools for that jack before going to the pawn shop. I have a purty big floor jack I picked up from HF and it was durn cheap. Works pretty good so far.

Pep Boys and Wal-mart also occassionally have good deals cheap Chinese jacks.

DRIVE THAT PUPPY UNTIL IT DROPS!! Just keep your hand on the shifter when in 1st because it "ain't the clutch"!!

Seriously, except for the transmission problem, sounds like everything else can be fixed while you enjoy it.

Tony, his clutch is still stuck. I think he should pull the engine and transmission and free the clutch. If he has no money for a new clutch then he could put it back (this would be practice for when it comes timee to replace the clutch).

Well, then, drive the heck out of it - he can't hurt it anymore & possibly the clutch will pop free!

thanks for the confidence boost tony....
i did drive the car down the street and back but my transmission was really noisy like its empty...probably why it dont leak ; )....and my clutch is still stuck.
was hoping my rough road would shake it loose...
i think ill try 1 more time before before pullin the motor...im not too excited about that!

Your are driving with the clutch depressed. Right?

OK, just wanted to make sure you didn't forget with all the excitment. 1st gear is a straight gear and it is noisey. But do make sure you have some motor oil in the tranny.
