Critical dimensions schematic for chassis

Hey all,
I know I have seen a chassis schematic somewhere that shows all the critical dimensions so one can make sure front and rear are properly aligned. But, I don't know where I have seen it!
Need to get hold of one as my left front shock mount might be a tad off so having trouble getting the alignment set properly. Finally found an alignment shop that will try to help out with my 56 100M so figured I need to investigate the above and have a schematic available to refer to. Anyone know where to send me to find it or have one to post would be really appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Are you talking about the one in the Bentley manual under chassis?

I'm curious--how does the shop propose aligning a 100? The only adjustment is toe--the shop could add shims under the shock or try bending the A-arm (be careful with this--a shop did mine this way and caused a crack at a mounting bracket). Is it camber or castor that needs aligning?

Hey Greg and Bob,
I have the factory manual for the 100-4 and unfortunately does not have a chassis schematic. As to the alignment, having toe in issues and cannot get set using the connector bar and adjusting in or out. Previous owner who restored the car told me that his frame shop changed the positioning of the shock mount on the right side after he had it all set and he believes that is where the problem lies. I have too much toe in and now feel it must be the shock mount location is "slightly off". Of course changing it might prove to be impossible but at least want to determine if that is the problem and figure the chassis diagram would help with that. If it turns out to be a huge deal I will simple sacrifice a front tire over a few thousand miles as opposed to making a bigger mess. I try to go by the axiom "if it ain't broke don't fix it" but in this case might be slightly broke and worth a try ! Greg if you can possibly make a copy of the Bentley diagram and either post or PM me would be great.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi BigHealey, there is an adjustable shock mounting plate that is available from many of the usual suspects. I think I saw it in Moss too. It welds to the tower in leu of the factory attachment plate. It has a bolt adjuster that can change your lateral dimension, which if memory serves is the camber. If the top of the wheel is leaned outward that would be more positive camber. I believe the factory spec on Healey camber is between 3/4 degree to 1 deg. I have seen camber vary on a big Healey as much as one degree without any negative affect or noticable tire wear.
I'm not very smart but I'm not sure I understand how you can have too much toe in. I mean the toe is usually set at about 1/8th inch total. But that is definately adjustable with the steering rods. Dave C.

Thanks Bob, might be exactly what I need - will contact them.

Tom's a great source, I've used him for nearly 20 years. I have his shock plates on my racer to achieve about -1 degree camber. Most dedicated big Healey track cars are at about -1 1/2 to -2. For duel purpose, -1 feels good for me. Here's 414 at the race alignment shop.
