Best place for MKII parts?

Hi all.

I'm restoring a '63 MKII BJ7 with my father and want to know what the best place is for parts. I have been getting some stuff from Victoria-British, but the owner wants the car to be as close to original looking as possible and I don't know how the parts at places like VB compare to others. I still need a full interior, trunk, conv top material, windshield and well as some chrome pieces. I already have new bumpers from VB along with a new gas tank and chrome grill for the hood.

I just don't want this thing to get knocked on for having the wrong parts once it goes down to B-J in April.

Dave,

What type of parts do you need? For body panels I think Kilmartin panels are very good and Heritage make super nice upolstery kits. I am sure others will have many suggestions. I had my Gauges refurbished at Mo-ma in New Mexico and was pleased with the results. I have purchased many parts that need some tweaking and modification (well more like most parts) but that just seems to be the nature of working on British cars (mine at least). Good luck on your project. I spent many happy hours working on cars with my dad and wish he was still able.

Thanks!

I mainly need interior parts. The body and frame is in great shape but the interior is pretty much "not there". Thanks for the tips on the gauges, was looking for a place to get them done.

Here is how the interior sits now.

Anyone know if this is an original radio? It says Blaupunkt on it, but it looks stock to me...

Hello,
I would recommend Heritage for your interior pieces. IMHO they are the best
out there. Expensive but sometimes you will hit a sale and their pricing will
be close to Moss or VB. Another option is AH Spares in the UK. Have just
put on a seat kit and quality was definitely better than Moss. But as I
said above and particularly if you're taking this Healey to BJ I would
go with the Heritage Trim interior. AH Spares chrome parts are great
and Moss gets most of their stuff from AH Spares and then put a Moss
part number on them.

Good luck,

Just finished my BJ7. You've already made a mistake. New bumpers don't look like original. Buy originals and have them straightened and rechromed. Good interiors can be purchased from Moss Motors about this time of the year, check for sales. The windhield can be purchased and installed locally, check around, I bought mine from "Abbey Glass" and they installed it for about $500 total.

Hello,

I also would like to advice AH-spares, because they deliver quality parts, for me cheap, very serious, excellent package. I receive the parts normally in four days. UK-->Germany
If I understand it right, you restore the car for a third person ?( owner).
Because the chassis look very solid.
Also the very very nice Blaupunkt radio
I don`t know if it is original, but it looks very original with a very original looking face plate. I believe it is an aftermarket radio, but from this time period.
It can also be possible, that Blaupunkt was also supplier for BMC.
I would like to have that.... :yesnod:

Bye michel-who love those real pictures

Thank for all the feedback so far! Sound like Heritage is the place to go for interior. I will probably stick with Moss for the rest of the parts since I'm in the US.

The car did have bumpers on it when it came in but they were in pretty poor condition chrome wise and new bumpers were cheap. I'll have to compare them with the ones I got from VB because I have a feeling they weren't the original either...not sure if you can tell from these pics or not.

Thanks again for all the help guys! I keep you posted with pics as the work gets completed.

Dave,

Wow, looks like a really great car to start with. You are waay ahead of what alot of us started with. My car is also a MKll , a 61-62 model. On the speedo and tach I think they should have a gold face not white. Mine have the gold and by the looks of your oil pressure and fuel gauge I think yours may take the gold as well. I see the red car in the back round is very nice also. One thing I notice on both your cars is the fender trim flash pieces are upside down and on the wrong side. I am not being picky but most here will point out something incorrect if we catch it. Two great cars though. What is the model of the red car? It appears to be a 61 or 62 with the vertical grill and the flat windshield.

I'm not sure the Kurt Tanner cars use Hertitage interiors. Who knows?
Patrick

Rasky, what's up with the top on that car? It seems too losely fitted. If you need a top, get that from Heritage too. Ask about the original stitching.

Wow! You guys rock! I never would have caught that the spears were oriented wrong! They came from the same owner so it makes sense that they are both oriented like that.

The other tach and speedo I have are more of a goldish cream color than white...I can post pics later.

The red car is a '63 BT7 and had the triple carbs...(title says '63 anyway but it may be a '62 for all I know). Both vehicles were purchased at an estate sale and had been sitting since at least 1995. I had the carbs rebuilt at SUcarbs.

If you interested here is a write up of the work I did on the red car you can check it out here.

As far as the top goes on the white one, it appears they simply started installing a new top but never actually finished it.

Thanks again for all the help guys!
