The aftermarket shift boot only a few years old and hardly any actual "running time" since it was put in place, has split apart. As in disintegrated.

Order two if you're in the market for a replacement.

It is a definite frustration. Shouldn't be this hard to put together decent rubber bits nowadays, but I do understand that we're a tiny market.

A couple years ago I wanted to replace the heater valve on my Morris. I looked at the UK supplier and in their description of the part they said, right upfront, don't buy this, it's crap. They eventually found a better supplier, but I had to chuckle at the honesty.

At a point in the early '90's when those valves were Unobtanium I made a mold to cast Devcon rubber diaphragms. Now I've purchased a repro one and find it to be so stiff to move I fear it will trash the gear of the control in the dash. As the one on the head now has begun to leak onto the dizzy I will likely disassemble the "new" one and put the diaphragm in the old. If a different configuration, I'll break out the mold and get more Devcon casting rubber.

For a time we substituted a Ford in-line valve from an older truck. Required some fiddly modification to plumbing and cable, but it just WORKED.

The rubber may have been on a shelf for a long time. Never know.

This is part of the reason why I made leather boots for the shifter and brake lever on my TR4A. I used some thin goatskin leather that I had saved from previous work. I think they look and work better, too.
