Hello listers, with frigid arctic winds now visiting Southern California (day temp 60º), I decided to examine the white tonneau cover and convertible top that came with my '59TR3A. I'm guessing they are the originals, although the interior is black w/ white piping. The side screens are white as well.
I spent about an hour on the top and tonneau; they were pretty grimy after being used for 20 some-odd years, and stored for another 25. They cleaned up reasonably well, but I was hoping for better. So, what products have you guys and gals used to safely bring your white tops back to life?

My first car had white vinyl seats and the only product that did a good job of getting them back to looking white was Wesley's Bleach White. I use this stuff everywhere I can, it removes the most stubborn stains on any color vinyl. It is supposed to be a white wall cleaner but works well on vinyl and is great at removing the brake dust from your tires. I never noticed any ill effects from using it but I usally followed it up with Armor All. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hopefully they fit okay -- they can shrink quite a bit when not in use. Yes, I believe white tops, etc were often supplied with black interiors.

Thanks for the cleaning tip -- haven't bought whitewall cleaner in a long time but will give it a try.
 
I have used Wesley's on tires for years and think it is a great product. I would caution, though, that I would not allow it to remain on the top's stitching for any length of time and make sure that it is well rinsed. While the vinyl would hold up to a bleach product, the stitching can deteriorate

Ah, a fashion maven! That's why I'm using the black tonneau that also came with the car... don't want to offend those with better fashion sense than I! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Is this a variation on the Marty Robbins song " A White Sports Coat and Pink Carnation" or a variation of the Jimmy Buffet version of "A White Sports Coat and a Pink Crustacean"???

I can confirm that my TR4A was originally supplied with black leather interior, black top cover and a white top - the car's original color is BRG
