Whats the key to removing the rear radius arm bush

I have my 59 Sprite rear end out and I am doing a total rear end rebuuild. I see that Victoria British sells new radius arms for $49.95 each. The bushings list for $12.95 each. My arms are in good shape other than the worn rubber bushings. My present radius arms can be rebuilt for about 1/2 price compared to new ones. I remember years ago having a heck of a time geting the old bushings out. I wound up trashing a radius arm. Any suggestions of a easy fix?

Cut em out. Hack saw blade by hand, or power saw.

Like Jack said, cut em out. sawzall works great or a hack saw once you get the rubber out of the way. (melt it out)
Also, place the new bushings in the freezer overnight.
Heat the radius arms and tap the cold bushings in the arms. It makes short work out of the job as long as the wife agrees to car parts in the freezer /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

i am having the same experience with the leaf spring rear bushing. i got the bushing out but the metal sleeve is frozen to the spring eye. i started hacksawing but it looks like it will need more persuasion.

Re: Whats the key to removing the rear radius arm

I did the radius arm bushings on my Bugeye last winter - I just spent the money to have the shop (where I purchased the bushings) install the new bushings... They have the press and the expertise. They only charged me around $20.00 to do both - I think it was money well spent.

Re: Whats the key to removing the rear radius arm

Thanks for the info. I didn't want to damage the arm trying to hammer the bushing out like I did last time. I just finished cutting the first bushing out with a metal saber saw blade, it worked well. Thanks much.

There ya go. Saber saws a good thing. Glad you resolved that problem.
