Did TR4a's come with a Hood Stripe? If so how rare is this.

Recently saw a white 1968 TR4a (non IRS) with a hood stripe. The owner told me that the paint was factory original and that some TR4a's did come with the stripe. I thought the stripe was exclusive to the 250's/5's.

According to Clausager's Original Triumph TR:

Also unique to the TR250 were its US-style triple nose stripes in reflective light silver paint... It is uncertain whether these stripes applied at the factory or in the USA by supplying dealers. (p. 80)

Sounds like only the 250 had them, and not the European TR5.

Thanks to both of you for the info. The Triumph Register link was very informative.
Is there anywhere online I can go to see what the commission (VIN) numbers were for each years production run. The cars were sold the year after production and most owners don't know what year of car they have. Knowing this would help when buying and registering your car.

It's listed toward the bottom of the VTR cars link. The Moss catalog also lists it on the "production data" page along with serial number location in their catalogs.
