Wedge TR7 Wheels - More

Okay, I visited this site becuase they had some nice looking panasport-like wheels for a decent price.

https://www.packracingproducts.com

So they have the correct bolt pattern, but not the right offset which I believe to be 25mm. However, when I go to their selector for TR7 it gives me various choices with different offsets. I don't understand, are they expecting me to use spacers? Anyway, I wanted to go up from the 6x13 size to a 6x15 size. They have one with a 24mm offset. Would that work? One millimeter seems like nothing for a rim. Also, how could I find out what tire size to use? Tire Rack doesn't have any software for help in this. I don't know where else to go. Thanks.

I really like some of those black rims... would make Sinister8 look, well even more Sinister... I just paid too much for my panasports to get rid of them though

Dan, I bought 14's with standard bolt pattern recommended from their website. The only challenge for me was the lug nut thread. Their default was incorrect, but they offered a choice in the drop-down box that was correct.

Regarding offset, I would call them and see what they suggest. I'm sure they've sold similar wheels for other 7's and can probably tell you what works in a 15" size.

Dan- Keep us posted. New wheels on the agenda this winter as soon as Woody redesigns his struts

Most people who upgrade wheels go to a 15X7 and use 205/50/15 tires. The 23P offset is what came stock on the TR7/8. That means that the mounting face of the wheel is 23 mm outboard from the center of the wheel. 23mm is almost one inch. So on a 5.5 inch rim, there is 3.75 inches of wheel in back of the mounting surface and 1.75 inches in front. If you go to a 7 inch rim(1.5 inches wider) and keep the same offset, then you will add .75 inches to both sides of the rim. Your tires will end up .75 inches closer to the spring and .75 inches closer to the fender lip. Tires rubbing against the spring is rarely a problem, but tires rubbing the fender lips is. Most people will just massage the lips a little. I have always rolled the lips when I have a car painted to prevent future tire rubbing problems. One other thing to consider, a wheel is actually 1 inch wider than the stated width. A rim's width is measured from the inside edge of the lip where the tire makes contact.

I use to use a wood baseball bat to roll my fenders, what did you use?

Okay, that's a good idea to just give them a call and ask what their suggeston is. I am hesitant to roll the fenders because I have never done that before, and genrally I am a clutz. It sounds like the 15 x 6 with 24mm offset will work just fine.

Yeah, I like those black rims, too, PATR8.

A baseball bat can still crack the paint, and I tend to be more on the aggressive side anyway. I use a three pound hammer and whack away. I work back and forth slowly stretching the metal around the entire radius of the opening. Once the lips are rolled up tight inside the fender, I switch to the 16 pound sledge. The big hammer will actually pull the fender edges outward. I stop when I have at least 12 inches of clearance between the inside of the fender lip and the flat panel at the back. It works well, and it doesn't cause as much damage as it sounds. A little bondo before paint, and you can't even tell they were moved. On the race car, I was able to pull the whole fender edge out another inch or so after I rolled the lips.

Never cracked my paint with the bat. Hmmmm. Start at the small end and work up.

LOL... I can't imagine the damage I could do whacking away with a hammer. I broke a fuel injector just changing the oil one time... having a hammer anywhere near the car is something I don't want to even think about.
